which is better????
oh n gives aid to intls..

bumppppppp

The two schools are comparable, I would say, although I like Bates better! As for aid, Mount Molyoke is more generous to intls I would say, although Bates is not bad either! Either choices would be good!

Both are good schools. A women's college is a different experience--works better for those who compartmentalize--work hard on academics without distractions and then socialize in a different sphere with men. Also you must really enjoy the company of other women and not have "meeting men" very high on your priority list--this doesn't mean you have to be gay or a potential nun-- it just means that coed social life isn't essential to your happiness 24/7. Mount Holyoke is more accessible to Boston and even, on occasion, NYC. Bates would be a more isolated "middle of nowehere" experience and colder. MHC benefits from the five-college exchange program.

My response will be bias, as I did get into Mount Holyoke ED. However, I will try my best to provide a somewhat balanced opinion, and I know several people who have attended or are attending Bates. I will concur with Pyewacket, they're very different experiences. And both schools are equally "good." I get the vibe Bates is less academic 24/7 environment MHC is, and whenever I would talk to MHC women, they would comment (often enthusiastically) about how the intellectual drive and workload at MHC was significantly greater than that of their friends at comparable liberal arts schools and even Ivies. You go to MHC if you're driven, willing to work for four years like mad, but have a great time and form friendships that will last lifetime. I am going to go on a limb and say that an undergraduate degree from Mount Holyoke, or any of the Seven Sisters, might be looked more highly upon than one from Bates. Only because, I think the degree of rigor is that much higher and the quality of teaching and advising at MHC that much stronger. Along with the fact the profile of "MoHo women" is one which is very much intertwined with motivated, passionate individuals who don't care for superficial trivialities, but for learning and helping the world. As silly as that sounds. They're just really different schools I think.

And from everything I've heard and read, Mount Holyoke is very generous with financial aid to internationals, more so than most schools. In addition to the fact MHC has a 15% international student body, which is, if I am not mistaken, the largest of any liberal arts college in the nation.

whoaaa k.. i was kinda anti- women colleges so far.,. but then u make MHC sound pretty decent..
thnx!
