General comments/advice/hindsight: this feels horrible because i have only gotten rejections so far RD

I guess since everyone else posted their stats

Decision: Accepted
SAT 1: 2180 (730/720/730)
ACT: 32 (35 Reading, 32 Math, 34 English, 25 Science, 10 Essay)
GPA: 92.3/100, 3.7/4.3
Rank: 4th decile
AP: English Lang (5), Gov (5)
Senior Year Courseload: AP Calc AB, AP Lit, Honors Band, French 4, AP Bio, Honors Political Philosophy, AP Econ (Macro and Micro), Gym, Health

Extra Curriculars: Way too many, most notably clarinet (ranked #1 in the state), membership in top state youth orchestra, music festivals. Also president of my schools environmental club, improv acting, and a bunch of other small stuff, over 1000 hours of community service.
Essays: Common App essay was pretty good, supplement essays were extraordinary
Teacher Recs: One from my junior year math teacher that was probably very good, one from junior and senior year gov/political philosophy teacher that was probably average, and one from my environmental club advisor whom I’ve worked with all four years that is probably amazing.
Counselor Rec: I have a really good relationship with my counselor and we’ve worked a lot together so probably amazing
Interview: Had one with an alum, went really well and was my longest and most involved interview

State: Vermont
High School Type: Largest and one of the best in VT
Ethnicity: White
Income Braket: Medium Low (<60,000k)

Strengths: Test scores, extra curriculars (a lot of dedication), music (submitted an art supplement), my supplement essays were probably the best I wrote out of every school I applied to
Weaknesses: GPA (due to freshman and sophomore grades, GPA since junior year has been a 4.0-4.3)
Hooks: Musician, First Gen
Why you think you receives your decision: I think my music helped me a lot and I know bates values quirkiness and individuality and I definitely showed that in my interview and essays
Other Decksions: Accepted: Bates, UVM, BU Rejected: Vassar, Carleton, Davidson, Colby

Has anyone been added to the Facebook page yet? I requested to join this morning and no one has accepted it yet…

Accepted!
I’m really excited because I thought I was going to be rejected from every college I applied to.
I’m grateful for my financial aid package - I would still have to pay a substantial sum of money but hopefully I would manage if I decided to attend.

I am an international student from Europe.
SAT: 2040 (730CR, 670W, 640M)
I think my essays and recommendations were good.
Extracurriculars included sport, community service, some clubs, foreign exchanges.

Accepted! Going! Sent deposit and can hardly wait to begin.

Waitlisted

GPA: 3.7 UW, 3.9 W
Class Rank: Top Third
Did not send in any testing
Hooks: URM
AP: Seven classes; I bombed most of my AP exams, though, so I didn’t report any scores.

I really wish I took on a tougher course load senior year. I’ve been taking classes at my high school since 6th grade and overloaded on credits, leaving me with limited options for senior year. I signed up for six classes, but only got five due to scheduling conflicts. My GC was aware of this, though, so I hope he mentioned this in his rec. I also told some of this to my interviewer, just to be safe.

I also wish I put more effort into my ECs. I’ve dabbled around in several different clubs but never really did much in any of them. I play one varsity sport but our team is always dead last in our league. I didn’t find anything that got me truly excited until I joined the Constitution team, which is exclusive to seniors in my high school. Needless to say, I didn’t get to spend enough time in it to write a decent essay on my experience, although I tried anyway.

I believe my common app and Why Bates? essays were good, although I noticed a couple flaws after submitting my app.

I already accepted a spot on the waitlist, but I’m not expecting much. Luckily I love my safeties and matches (one of which has given me an almost full-ride financial aid package), so I got over this decision quicker than expected.

Waitlisted

I’m an international and asked for full aid so maybe that’s why I’ve been wait-listed, otherwise I had a pretty decent application.

Accepted
29 ACT/12 Writing
4.6 GPA
Declining offer to attend Bowdoin or Kenyon

^Edit: Declining offer from Bates in ORDER to attend Bowdoin or Kenyon

Collegebound: my son is trying to decide between Bates and Kenyon, curious what factors between the two schools are weighing into your decision. Not sure how to send a PM!
