Bates v. Middlebury - for Economics

How would you compare Bates v. Middlebury for economics?

the Bates economics program is said to be the 2nd best liberal arts program only to Swarthmore. If you are going for economics, go to Bates. Though some of midd's programs are better than Bates, the econ department is not.

thanks. any other sources of info on relative strength of economics programs at Midd & Bates?

I've heard good things about both schools so far.

Middlebury is better than Bates if your major is environmental studies or foreign languages. But Bates' reputation for economics supercedes that of Middlebury. Go to Bates ;)

Bates econ dept is not better than Midd's. Read this article from the highly respected Economic Principals web site.

Members of this clan are not so rare, being fairly freely distributed in colleges and universities around the world, but they are always to be found in the best economics departments among the best American small colleges -- such as Swarthmore, Wellesley, Williams, Amherst, Grinnell, Carleton, Pomona and, in his case, Middlebury.

No mention of Bates in there...

A difference of opinion I see.
