Bates vs Trinity

Hello,

I have been accepted to both Bates and Trinity as a chemistry/psychology major on the premed track. I am struggling to decide between the two, because Trinity has given me 20k per year merit scholarship while Bates did not give me anything. I do not qualify for much financial aid but the 80k total difference could be a game changer if I decide to pursue the premed track and attend medical school, which is very expensive. I like the opportunities that Trinity offers in terms of research and the ISP program. I like Bates better as a school and the availability to go into many disciplines while still pursuing the premed track. Does anyone have any insight to which school makes more sense for my situation?

Thanks in advance!

Trinity is an excellent school. Being in Hartford creates some off campus opportunities that could be helpful in your situation. If you are contemplating med school, that game changing money could matter.

I totally understand why you love Bates - great vibe - but Trinity is a super school. This is a matter of choosing between different equals, not between better and worse.

It sounds like Trinity could be a great choice for you. It’s basically getting a year free.

My kid goes to Bates and it’s a wonderful school. But for $80k, I’d choose Trinity, unless your family is wealthy and the money isn’t a concern.

Trinity hands down. Hartford boasts a teaching hospital that affords undergraduates internship and research possibilities that Lewiston Maine cannot match. In addition the current president is a neuroscientist and the school’s new neuroscience building is quite impressive. Trinity has challenging academics combined with high school spirit and is evolving to represent increased diversity. They host accomplished Posse scholars programs. They must think very highly of you and have extended you a wonderful opportunity. I would take it.
