Bathing suits

Actually, some people might not want ultraviolet radiation exposure in some areas. Further, bathing suits can help streamline or protect body parts that would otherwise be flopping around in the water. There’s also a cleanliness factor.

The Pope maintains that there is nothing wrong with the naked human body and that it is nothing to be ashamed of. It is not innately an object of lust, but seen as a work of God and a human beauty. So, since Catholicism is >50% of Christianity, I would not say that hiding the naked form is a Christian value.

However, there are parts of Christianity and other religions, such as Islam (see the [Burqini](Burkini - Wikipedia)), that do value hiding the naked body.

Probably. Rape would be easier, since the assailant wouldn’t have to rip through/off clothes. This is a good reason for keeping clothes.

Of course, there are issues like protection from the elements and such, as well. Personally, society has engrained its modesty value in me, for better or worse, so I won’t be prancing about naked anytime soon. Not even if it makes me more invisible (comic reference, for those who get it).

Neither would I. However, avoiding acting provocatively is a Christian value, and the society that we live in often considers nudity provocative. Also, not looking at another person lustfully is a Christian value, and due to the society we are raised most of us have a hard time not doing that if the other person is nude.

In a society that had different norms, the issue would be different, at least for Christians like me.

“How I wish that we’re true…”

Then again, people would have said the same about many past reductions in the level of clothing considered acceptable for females.

Then again, maybe that has happened. Sex abuse cases have certainly risen much faster than the population, but there are a lot of ways to explain that.
