Bathrooms

Hi,

I was just wondering if someone could post pictures of bathrooms that first years usually use at UVA.

Thanks.

not sure why anyone would be taking pictures of the facilities but for alderman they are exactly like the floorplan shows. The old dorms have what you would expect with a bathroom at the end of the hall that has some showers. It's what you'd expect from a hall style bathroom.

i guess she or he wants to know how clean the facilities usually are.

they are truly cleaned once a week with the hose but they are taken care of every weekday.

I suppose the OP is actually asking whether despite the weekly cleanings there might be mineral buildup, etc.

I'm not really concerned myself -- but my apartment's bathroom is terrible! It's sanitary .... as long as you don't get hit by the rust leaking from the ceiling. No matter how hard we try to clean it, it's an unsightly place to be in. I'll be so excited to be away from it. :D

The bathrooms, from what I saw visiting last year, are clean and maintained very well. In Old Dorms, when you enter the coded-lock door, one side is all showers, the other is toilets/sinks. The showers are your basic divided showers with curtains, nothing fancy, but great water pressure. There were I think 5-6, same with toilets/sinks. Might vary with floors/buildings.

For all college dorms, you should definitely wear flip flops. Not necessarily because the floors are unsanitary (they're not perfect, but they are disinfected every week), but because you're walking through the hall and through the bathroom to get to the showers, and you'll have a much better chance of staying clean and without any feet growths. It sounds gross, but it's really not a big deal if you wear flip flops. Having a robe or extra towel is great too, as well as some kind of bag/bucket to carry all of your stuff to and from the shower (having them be something that easily drains is the best way to go...look for plastic totes or beach bags with holes)

disclaimer: galosien lives in ME at this time; he is NOT talking about a UVa residence hall or an apartment close to UVa.

As shoebox said, you should be fine if you wear flip flops. They don't need to be expensive or all that good; just make sure they have grips on the bottom and aren't slippery when wet (this is key). Buy a shower caddy (it's basically a plastic box with holes and a handle) to carry all of your shampoos and soaps and other shower necessities.

Oh whoops, if I didn't make that clear enough, I was just trying to say that at UVA I would be content with anything better than my current apartment. ;)

haha no prob but I bet someone was like wha!?!?! and I was just thinking, how awkward (and sketchy) would it be if someone came into the bathroom with a camera or a video recorder thing?

so one of my albums on facebook, i realized after i uploaded it that half of the pictures were taken in the bathroom. granted, brown is a bit different than first years dorms, but we were, like, wait, were we really taking pictures in the bathroom. the bathrooms in brown are where a lot of the socialization/parties occur, lol. it's kind of entirely ridiculous.
