Baylor Honors V Austin College V Trinity University

I am hoping for feedback on these 3. I have already been admitted to all 3. I am unsure of my major, but it will likely be a math or science, not med school bound.

Sherman (Where AC is) is such a very small town and campus…not a lot of ‘spirit’ there, but great academics. You could really get a little stir crazy if you aren’t used to small towns. (I grew up in Denison near there). That said, almost every AC student seems to know each other and they are close knit.

Baylor is almost an opposite end of the spectrum. Huge, spirited campus with a lot going on and lots of sporting events that much of campus rallies around.

I don’t know a lot about Trinity so I’ll stay out of that one. I think, academically, though, Baylor and AC are probably similarly challenging. Baylor is far more well known throughout the country. AC is likely to have small intimate classes for upper division coursework. If you’ve not visited them, you may want to look because those two just ‘feel’ different.

I had actually already decided on Austin College. I have been to AC and Baylor. I really cannot stand football or the football culture. During this whole process, I grew to love the smaller LAC. I had applied ED to Rice and did not get in. But I actually feel like that was probably a good thing.

Today I got my acceptance to Baylor Honor College. It is exciting and all, but I do not feel anything for that school. I worry though, that AC is not a known school. I am not sure if that will matter in the end though.

I am still applying to a couple other schools regular decision. But, they are LACs.

I tend to be in the minority on some of my opinions, but personally I don’t think you are any worse for going to a slightly less known college, especially if you do well there. It is easy to get lost in a big campus setting and I like smaller LACs that offer a more personal touch where they recognize when you don’t show up for class and the teachers are interested enough to notice.

AC is a great science school - I know you are not ‘medical’ but I know numerous kids that did pre-med and pre-dental there and have had marvelous luck getting into their professional schools. Chances are high you can get some decent financial aid from AC as well. While Sherman is small and a bit lazy, many students find that to be appealing because it is decidedly not a ‘party all the time’ kind of school and there are certainly enough things to do to keep you occupied as it isn’t so tiny that the school is all there is.

In addition, many of the students will take quick trips to Dallas on weekends to go to the mall or eat somewhere different, and it is only about 45 minutes to an hour until you hit the edges of Dallas and start seeing all of that, so it is kind of a nice thing to have that available.

My best friend in high school went to AC, then went to law school in Dallas and he loves Austin College. I’m sure you will find it to be a wonderful place.

Austin College profs are top notch, students seem very happy, and they go on to good grad school programs in very large numbers. Congratulations to you on a fine decision.
