Baylor Medical Track Program 2016

Hello, has anyone else received an invitation for the interview day on January 22, 2016? Does anyone have any advice because I have no idea what to expect. I have registered to attend, but I’m not getting my hopes us because my shadowing/research experience is very weak. Scores, volunteering, and everything else is good, but I know clinical experience will be hindering me greatly.

What are your scores btw?

I’d recommend thinking of several questions to ask of profs. There’s a dinner the first night, and you will be seated with a professor there. Afterwards there’s a meet and greet, and it’s a good opportunity to make yourself known to the faculty in your area of interest. There’s not an interview, per se.

@BryceBJ are you a NMF or NMSF? I am just curious. I was not selected to attend and curious the stats of those chosen to be invited.

My Stats:
33 ACT
3.95 unweighted GPA
top 5% in my class (#10 out of 210)
Rigorous AP curriculum
Number of leadership positions (president of student council, NHS, team captain, etc)
Number of academic awards through the years
A lot of ECs

Visited Baylor twice and met with a myriad of people.
I was disappointed not to be invited. I have been given $17,000/year in scholarship but that won’t be enough for my family to afford sending me. I may not have received the faculty scholarship, but I was ready to give it everything I had.
I am just wanting to get an idea of what set people apart that got them the invitation.
I wish you lots of luck at I2E.

Hearing any stats of those receiving the invitation to excellence would be greatly appreciated.

My scores are not amazing. 32 ACT and I’m not a NMF or NMSF. I have 4.0 gpa and a decent amount of community service. I think my essays were pretty good though. I also do all available AP classes.

@gograpple

Nice, btw when did you submit your essays? @BryceBJ

About midway through October @premedguy

@gograpple @BryceBJ
Are you talking about Invitation to Excellence Jan 22-23?
I was invited and accepted, and plan on attending. However, my stats aren’t fantastic, considering the amount of high caliber students applying. I believe the only stat requirement was a 30 on ACT, which I barely met.

29 composite ACT, 30 superscore
3.74 unweighted, 3.98 weighted
Lots of community service
Academic and leadership awards
Lots of extra curriculars, 4 years of sports
Top quarter of class (~600)

Visited Baylor once, met with admissions counseler too. Was already accepted when I applied for I2E

@futurebaylorbear no, I’m talking about the medical track program that is going on on the same day as I2E, the 22nd

@BryceBJ my bad sorry!

@BryceBJ Clinical experience is a very important part of getting to the first and second interview. The main thing I’ve heard accepted students have is research experience. That adds another level to the application and is a great focus in interviews. If an interviewee can somehow weave all of their accomplishments into a story about why they chose medicine and what experiences helped them along the way, they will be selected. It’s all about eloquence so you don’t sound like you’re bragging. The second interview notification won’t be out for a while, but they do make a massive cut since they only recommend about 20 to BCM. There, you have to show them that you’re mature and dedicated enough to handle an 8-year commitment (ex. won’t drop out, flunk out, end up being a slacker that gets on probation every other semester, does not represent the university/med school well, etc).
(Source: accepted at two programs, after six interviews)

Did anyone hear news about second interview? I thought we were supposed to hear about it by 02-15-2016. Nothing so far. I attended first round on Jan 22nd along with I2E.

My son attended and has not heard either. I’m assuming this week or next week we’ll be hearing one way or the other. I had the 15th in my head as well.

Thanks. Hopefully this week.

Got notified through email that I am going to final interview at Baylor. One more interview to go…

Congratulations, HoustonTexan!! I hope you have a great interview and get picked for BCM:)

Congrats, HostonTexan. What do you think is the major factor in your selection for 2nd interview?

I wish I knew. Not sure what was the criteria. But just glad.
