I am currently applying to three colleges for next semester as an international transfer. I have been accepted by Baylor and Michigan State and Im still waiting on a decision by UT. I wonder if anyone knows what should I do if I am currently on International Business. My SAT score is Verbal: 430 Quant: 570. Do I have any chance in UT?

While Michigan State Univevrsity and U of Texas-Austin are probably (and subjectively) a bit stronger than Baylor, these schools each have many academic strong points. Therefore, I think your choice should depend on which of the three very distinct culture/character of these institutions that you believe you will thrive in.

Baylor; quite conservative culturally. Waco is rural area.
Texas-Austin; busy college town and state capital. Urbane southwest mix.
Michigan State; Large campus is like a suburban city with lots of greenery.

MSU, Texas and Baylor each have superior natural science departments. What's your intended major?

My intended major is International Business
I really dont mind is the college is big or small and if it's in a rural or busy city area.
Could anyone tell me why this three colleges are ranked in the top 100?

Baylor is pretty homogenously white, if that's okay with you - biggest Baptist university in the world, and it shows.

I can't really say much about MSU, because I don't know very much about it. Neither of these 2 schools really strike me as having especially good business programs, is there a reason you chose them? Sounds like you need to do some more research.

I hate to say it but you will not get in to UT Business, much less UT. There is no way UT would take someone out of state with a 1000 SAT, sorry.

But Kcirsch, remember that he is an international student seeking a transfer. Wouldn't the SAT scores be less significant in the admissions process if his other attributes were strong?

MSU does have a decent business school, ranked in the 20's.

gasparmx,

Are you transferring in as a sophomore or junior? I presume you know that even after you are admitted to MSU, you still have to apply again to the Broad School of Business, usually in the second semester of your sophomore year.

LakeWashington,
UT is only 4-5% OOS, and those spots are generally held for outstanding students, usually with high SATs because they bring up the possibly dismal SAT scores of students who may have gotten in under the top 10% rule...I mean, you could be top 10% and score an 800 on the SAT and you still have to be let in - while this is highly improbable because usually high GPA = high SAT, it's how it works. UT is not going to lower any standard for an international transfer, especially with a 1000 SAT. And even if you did get into UT, there's absolutely no way the business school would let you in.

Kcirsch is correct about UT. Incidentally, the percentage of top 10% students with an SAT above 1500 is about the same as the percentage below 900.

gaspar, I would choose Michigan State for business over Baylor. UT Business is very competitive, but at least wait for a decision before making a deposit at either school.

I will like to know if u guys have an idea of another college that could fit what Im looking for?

And by the way, I am not really sure of my major so far
Its my third semester in college, im going into my fourth

SMU has a very good business school, as do Trinity and TCU, but I don't know how well a student from Mexico would fit in at these schools. You could also look at A&M and Texas Tech.

I would choose MSU over Baylor.

The most important thing is I want to get the hell out of here on January. I hate my college and my hometown. So I think waiting for next semester so I can apply to SMU or Trinity may not be an option.

Here's a good write up on MSU:

Look up post #53.

which is a better school in business? Baylor, MSU, Trinity, SMU, UT or another one in Texas?

UT business is by far the best on that list.

how would you rank the list from #1 to #5 or another one in texas if you add it....cause by what people have told me i dont know if i will get accepted to UT

so #1 UT

2 MSU...trinity, SMU, baylor?

In my opinion,

UT

SMU

Trinity

MSU

Baylor

Just curious why you think SMU is better than MSU, especially since the OP is interested in business.

You can read a lot about MSU from the link I provided earler. What are some of the strong programs at SMU?

I was speaking solely about the business programs at the mentioned schools - Cox is a stellar business school, and in addition to fine arts, is SMU's strongest department/school. IMO, Cox is 2nd in Texas only to UT.

UT - Austin does not look at the SAT scores for transfer students.

MSU's Broad School of Business is quite good too. Broad is 2nd in Michigan only to Ross 8^).

Its Supply Chain Management and Hospitality Management programs are ranked second in the nation, after MIT and Cornell respectively.

US News ranks Broad 22nd overall for undergrad and 32nd for MBA ... compared to 35th and 54th respectively for Cox.
