Okay, I want to try for the Rice/Baylor Scholar program and want to know if i'm worthy enough to even apply to rice. My stats are:
36 ACT
3.85 GPA
13 AP classes
5 Honors
100+ hours of volunteering at a hospital
50+ Hours of tutoring
Shadowed a doctor
A letter of rec from the chairmen of a radiology oncology department of a hospital.
A letter of rec from AP biology teacher, that I got a 5 in.
Several school clubs
Ability to graduate a semester early.

I feel the GPA brings me down a lot, but its due to the large amount of AP classes.
Do I have a good chance at the program or no? only 14 people get accepted a year.

Any comments would be much appreciated.

Need you ask? Nobody “has a good chance at a program” that is that selective.

I don’t know the specifics of that program, but all the BS/MD programs I am aware of select 50-100 potential candidates based on their stats and other on-paper qualifications, then make the final selection based on interviews.

Baylor Rice is one of the hardest ones to get into. On par with HPME and PLME. Your stats put you in the right range, I mean a 36 ACT is as good as it gets. Your GPA might hurt you, but it’s still quite high. If you use that extra semester to do something amazing that sets you apart, then you have a better chance. At this point there’s nothing that screams out to me; then again, you’ve only summarized your academic career in 12 lines.

Keep on working hard, and apply, but keep in mind the regular route to med school may end up paying off for you. Apply to other top schools as well.

similar stats including the 36 act as you. way higher gpa. similar ecs. interviewed for rice baylor but did not get in. this was a couple of years ago.

Your stats are fine. For Rice/Baylor you need something that sets you apart from all of the other perfect SATs and ACTs. Yes, they receive an abundance of perfect and near-perfect scores. If you can finish HS early you will have an opportunity to immerse yourself in something significant, but you should know exactly what you will be doing and why before you apply to Rice so you can discuss your plans in the R/B essay.
