Baylor University scholarships concerns

My daughter was invited for a scholarship weekend thing. By going she will be eligible for additional scholarships. This would be great, except for the part where we were told by a couple of the parents from our school that the scholarships are not good. We were told they have to be renewed every year. ANd that even though they make it sound like it will be renewed as long as you keep your grades up, they will not be.

If this is true, we cannot consider this school. Baylor is more expensive than any other school on the list. We cannot afford to pass on scholarships at other schools, only to have this one drop the scholarships after the first year. If this is not true, we would like to really go. I think this school could be a good choice for my daughter.

Anyone have any knowledge of this? Thanks!

These statistics would suggest there is not a systematic drop in merit aid after freshman year.

My daughter is only a freshman at Baylor, but I have not heard that this happens. The money you get for attending the special weekend is a one time award, not really a scholarship, and to us that was explained clearly up front. The scholarships that my daughter received are renewable as long as she maintains a certain GPA. There are also sometimes additional scholarships to apply for once you are in a certain major, or in the honors college (for example).

I highly recommend the Invitation to Excellence weekend if you are able to go!
