Baylor University Sorority Recruitment

My daughter went through recruitment earlier this year as a freshman and it was just as tough as we heard a southern rush is. Baylor sororities have casual drop in events in the fall. FYI - students should consider this the beginning of recruitment! Make a point to make contacts in each house and follow up with them each time you visit (remember names, conversations, etc) After a few visits, let girls know you are interested. When January recruitment comes around you will know some people and that will help. In most houses- only girls you have visited with can vote for you so, meet as many girls as possible and follow up with them on consequent visits. Letters of recommendations are suggested and I would recommend more than one recommendation per house. You want to stand out from others that just did one recommendation. It is not uncommon for a rushee to feel she has had a great first day and then end up getting dropped from the majority of houses. There were many girls in tears (in the dorms) after day 1. My daughter ended up getting in the house she liked the most (she is a legacy, which I am sure helped - though she had friends who were legacies for other houses and got dropped by them :frowning: ) My last word of advice is - there is no way girls can get to truly know you after a few days of short conversations. Do not take any of this personally! There are many great organizations at Baylor where you can make friends. I have always thought it was easier to go through recruitment sophomore year after you have made some friends in various houses. Best wishes !

In my house, being a legacy is both good and bad. You are guaranteed to be invited to the first party (good) but if they invite you to preference you must be given a bid (bad), so if you are on the edge, they can’t invite you one last party to really get to know you. Also, these days there are just way too many legacies to give bids to them all.

Have fun. These are going to be your social friends. Be yourself too. Just because your grandmother was a Theta doesn’t mean that’s the best house for you. It’s 60 years later and a different school.

Great advice! My rising-senior daughter is interested in Baylor, and this information will definitely come in handy if she chooses to go there.
