Hi,
I really do love Baylor mainly just for the BIC program, but I do wonder and sometimes question whether or not I should apply ED to other prestige universities such as Northwestern U. I don’t know how much prestige will matter as a future medical student but I am pulling my hair out because I feel that if I go to Baylor and do BIC, I would be look down upon as someone who is not as intelligent as the person who went to Northwestern. I just want to know if I am making the right decision applying ED for Baylor BIC.

Baylor’s pre-med program is very respectable, from my understanding. It may not be as prestigious as some, but you won’t be looked down on just for deciding to go there. See some of the older threads in this forum (I’ve linked to a couple below, but there are plenty more) for more discussions on Baylor pre-med.

Personally, I think if you love Baylor, then go for it!

Baylor’s ED was not binding this past year. Baylor is a great school for pre-med. My D just turned down H, Y, Duke, Dartmouth, Rice and several others to do the Baylor’s Honors program. You might check out the University Scholars Program. All of our contacts with Baylor have been so pleasant. A wise stranger suggested we send our D somewhere she is treasured not merely tolerated. Baylor seems committed to developing the whole person and the campus is gorgeous. There are many highly intelligent students at Baylor.

Thank you both for your advice. I’ll apply EA to Baylor BIC(have already started apps)!

Baylor University Waco, TX

14,000 students; 12,000 Undergrad; Division 1 Athletics; 100 plus majors; Beautiful Campus; and excellent reputation for employment and graduate school. Outstanding academic as well as need based financial aid. (34,000 applicants for 3,800 spots)

We came to Baylor due to their top 10 ranking in undergraduate engineering and the number one ranked Air Force ROTC unit in the country. We found the faculty to be Biblically based, pragmatic, and well educated. Much criticism comes to Baylor on their varied views of evolution and the fact that their student body does not have to be Christian to attend. Many students are not Christian but most are and the Faculty is required to be believers, with exceptions for guest lecturers. The only negative is the distance to Waco which is 100 miles south of Dallas. Whether I am New York on business or anywhere else in the planet when the name Baylor University comes up I hear the same phrase Baylor, that is a great school!

I think Baylor gets a lot of respect due to the Baylor Medical College, which is no longer formally affiliated with Baylor University… but the reputation of a solid science curriculum remains, and the pre-med population is indeed very, very large… some 600+ enter each year indicating a pre-med focus.
