I’m really interested in the nursing programs at both TCU and Baylor. I have visited both and while I liked the campus of TCU better, I liked the people and atmosphere at Baylor. Does anyone have any advice/stories about the two schools and their experiences?
I’ve never been overly impressed with the nursing program at TCU. I guess it depends on the student, but a lot of the students are clearly there on Daddy’s dime and are not really motivated and ready to learn. Honestly, the nurses in a local junior college ADN program are usually looked on more favorably…they are intense, have amazing skills and are highly motivated.
Baylor - you are aware that the bulk of the actual nursing program is IN Dallas, right? I believe you would do your pre-reqs in Waco but then your nursing program moves in to Dallas. Those RNs are top knotch and have an amazing place to do clinicals. Baylor Dallas (“Big Baylor”).
Also, paying for private school for a BSN degree is not a great idea. Are your parents paying the whole out of pocket costs? There are many state schools here in Texas with great nursing programs and are overall a much better deal.
Baylor is like a cult in Texas when it comes to health professions. If you want to settle here then it’s a no brained to go with Baylor.
@WorryHurry411 …exactly! Baylor RNs are awesome and very well trained. I would put UTA and TCJC RNs just under them as far as reputation followed by TCU.
@mst1997 Here is info from the Baylor website:
The Traditional Track requires 66 hours of prerequisite courses and 65 hours of upper-division coursework.
The school’s pre-nursing curriculum combines liberal arts with natural and behavioral science courses. Although many of our students take these prerequisites on the Baylor campus, a number of them come to the Dallas campus from other approved colleges and universities to finish their upper-division coursework.
Students complete two years of upper-division professional coursework at the school, located on the campus of Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, a world-famous teaching and research hospital, in a city that is known around the globe as one of the leading centers for medicine and health care.
I wonder ,if a some point, the TCU nursing program will be impacted (improved) by the Texas Christian University and the University of North Texas Health Science Center collaboration to create the new Med School in Fort Worth. ???
I have been accepted to Baylor and TCU. I like Waco but a concerned and I’m pretty politically conservative. I am from New York, upper-middle class, a Republican and Catholic. But, like all types of people. QUESTION: I have a concern about Baylor, is it very religious and anti-drinking. I"m not a big party guy, but want a be able to drink beers and dance on a Friday or Saturday night without being judged by really uptight super religious Bible Thumper types. A girl I spoke to from Connecticut told me she was drinking a bottle a wine with friends in her dorm room and the room mate report them to the RA. The RA called the police and they all got a $500. fine and 8 hours of public service because they are under 21. She transferred out. Is it really this uptight about booze?
If your top concern is being able to drink on campus then it’s not the place for you.
- The legal age is 21. I would think most schools are pretty harsh on underage drinking IN the dorms.
- Waco is the heart of the Bible Belt. It is super conservative for the most part.
- If you want to find a party you can definitely find some parties. I think you can find your crowd but you will have to work at it a bit.
