Baylor's Invitation to Excellence Program, January 2019 (Faculty Scholarship Questions)

Forgot to mention that my son was not a NMSF

full tuition is full tuition!!! what’s your S studying?

@jdconner1976 @dpBU23 My DD’s scholarship amount also went up today!! It’s not full tuition, but it’s above the President’s Gold and a wonderful addition. How do we determine if this was part of the fall I2E, which she attended and submitted an essay for, or something else?

if you login to BearWeb → student financial services → financial aid → award information → awards for a specific year → (choose year) → award overview. This will show every element of current financial aid for your D

@dpBU23
My son is majoring in Biology, following Pre-Med track

@teaforwendy @dpBU23
My son also did not receive full tuition will the faculty scholarship, but combined with his original merit scholarship, came close.

@teaforwendy
Forgot to say - the financial aid office told me when I called to inquire what the scholarship was for, that it was from the I2E event.

@jdconner1976 my DD called today and they told her the same thing. Said very few of these were awarded. #unexpectedblessing.
The members of this thread have had some good luck with scholarships!

My National Merit Finalist daughter was not awarded the RG but was awarded another merit scholarship that stacked on top of the merit scholarship she was awarded at admission. Is that what your daughter was awarded @teaforwendy ? We really needed the RG and are honestly shocked she didn’t receive it with top 1% ACT and NMF but still grateful she got close with the additional merit scholarship.
We still haven’t received any explanation from Baylor in the form of letter or email though.

sorry to hear @valarrie - seems your D is what they were looking for. Sorry to ask but you say she didn’t get RG but you haven’t received any letter or email. How have you confirmed she did not get RG if no notice? Did Financial Aid share this over a phone call?

I don’t believe all notices have gone out @valarrie. I know of two NMF students who have also received no notification that they received or did not receive Regents Gold. Baylor has always notified students either way in the past, such as with Faculty and Getterman Scholarships.

The admissions office has always been very vague on when notification could occur, but they have said it could be a few weeks into March before confirmation is given.

@PJ2019tx and @bvbfc09 I called Financial Aid after the extra Merit Scholarship was put in my daughter’s account since there was no explanation with it. They suggested it was in lieu of the RG as per a new program. And I also talked with her admissions counselor but yes, very vague answers were given. Our dilemma is that DD was awarded a full tuition and fees scholarship from another university and her deadline to accept is March 9th. Baylor is her dream school so we are trying to make sure we have all the information before making our final decisions.

My DD didnt get RG award… She is NMF candidate with good GPA and Essay. @valarrie , how do you know that you got extra merit scholarship ?? Did they inform you or checked at baylor account …??

@greendragons sorry to hear your DD didn’t get the RG either…so disappointing with both of them being NMF, top SAT/ACT, etc :frowning: The email my DD received today spelled out the additional merit scholarship called the Achievement Gold that will stack on her President’s Gold, so it got her very close to the RG Gold award, but we still were hoping/needing that little extra! Lots of prayer going on in our household on whether she takes the offer at the other university or her dream school of Baylor. The email came in her Baylor email account and the additional scholarship was listed in BearWeb.

@valarrie Thanks for sharing the information. Did you ask for any additional merit scholership or they gave to you?

Also Does anyone appeal for not getting RG ?? Please share your ideas.
Thanks

@greendragons my son also didn’t get the RG. He’s also a NMF. I asked about the appeal process and was told that is not possible. Still can’t believe the number of NMFs who didn’t get it. And I wish they would tell us why.

Anyone been able to find out how many qualified students applied (BU accepted, NMF, went to i2e, filled out i2e application/essay, etc). Seems some highly qualified people are reporting no and only a few reporting yes so far.

No RG here either :frowning: NMF, 36 ACT, etc. A little disappointed, but still thankful for what we do have.

Wow! So no RG from this thread? My DD has two local friends who are also NMF and had attended I2E and neither was awarded the RG or the Achievement Gold. Surely a head scratcher. We took a day trip to campus yesterday for my DD to attend a Baylor dance clinic and it just feels right for her.

If you don’t mind me asking, how many of your students are committed to Baylor? Did not receiving the RG change their plans? My household is a bit divided when other schools have offered here more money…but I know we have to think about all aspects of the next 4 years and everything about Baylor fits with my DD’s goals. Such a hard decision! She’s our first we’re sending to college so we end up questioning everything.

@valarrie My S was awarded RG but it seems crazy how many were not. I’ve also seen one on this (or another) thread who was awarded the faculty scholarship. This is our second to send to college and our second to send to Baylor. feeling very blessed!
