BB&B dorm accessories

S received gift certificate to BB&B after having already purchased most necessary dorm items. So we're considering buying a chair or two with that money. Has anyone had any experience with their microsuede folding comfy chair ($39.99) or the black microsuede folding rocker ($79.99)? The former seems a little flimsy, but the latter is a bit pricey and I'm not sure I like the floor level chair concept. Do the kids like them though?

Also, S's college only allows wall decor that can be hung with stick pins (ie. no nails or holes in the wall). I didn't see anything at BB&B that looked promising as far as wall decoration. Has anyone found something there? If not, I would appreciate suggestions for where to get manly decorations. I don't think my son is a sheet-hanging-from-the-ceiling kind of guy. He claims he doesn't want anything, but I'm afraid the room will look cold and empty.

Usually poster companies have sales in the student unions during the first week of school. They won't need nails.

The microsuede folding comfy chair is actually pretty comfy, but a word of caution- Microsuede, even synthetic, can be tough to clean.

when I was there last they had a chair I liked:
<a href="http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=14029672&RN=689%5B/url%5D">http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=14029672&RN=689</a></p>

it doesn't fold, but that floating style is really comfy. I have one from ikea that was bought about ten years ago and it's still cranking. Maybe one of those instead? It's a nice price compromise over the two you mentioned.

Is the chair to go into his dorm room? Is there space??? If it's for the dorm, I'd wait til you're there to be sure there's space. If there isn't, you might want to "buy him out" of that gift certificate. He can use the cash for pizza, and you will certainly find something at BB&B that you want.

Yes, it's for his room. Good point--there might not be enough space. I'll have to check the room dimensions and try to figure that out. But since it's a very long drive to school--one I won't be making again soon--I would probably prefer to take it along anyway and just bring it back home if it's not needed. Otherwise I guess I'd have to pay to ship it if it turns out it would be helpful.

A friend told me her daughters use those folding nylon chairs parents bring to soccer games for their dorm.

Spent a fun time with Son at local BBB last night. Many of the savvy CCer's may know about the Pack and Hold program, which I think is terrific, and hoping it goes as planned.

We used a scanning gun to select items which are supposed to be ready for pick up Friday near Notre Dame. Turns out the sales tax is 1% less than here in NJ so this should cost us less! No shipping fees, no fee for this service.
I think I am in college mother's heaven, and will be interested to see if this works out.

This program saves parents from the time consuming shopping day move in day- which is not much fun without air conditioning. Not to mention the chance that the items are out of stock........

BBB---- my new favorite store, and yes, I am taking a couple 20% off coupons to use, too!!!

Could you go on the CC thread for your son's school (Dart?) and maybe some current students could tell you what kind of space there is in a typical room in your s's dorm?

(If Dart, I don't think there's a BBB less than 50-60 miles away...so pack N hold may not work.)

My S had the floor rocker model in his room. The kids really liked it, especially when playing video games.

NH is a tax-free state, although the closest BB&B is probably in Concord. (60mi)

These things are great for hanging stuff and do not damage the walls.

I am pretty sure I have seen them at BBB.

Does anyone know what kind of material can be used for hanging posters etc. from a brick wall?

How about Gack (sp?)? It's a silly putty-like adhesive that shouldn't damage the paint on the brick/cinderblocks.

Last year my son had one of the floor level chairs. He's not taking it back this year. The floor level chairs almost take up more room than a regular chair because you have to have your legs stretched out accross the floor.

Motherdear: Do you mean stuff like this?

<a href="http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StaplesProductDisplay?prodCatType=0&storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&productId=11061&cmArea=SC1:CG821:DP100:CL10000%5B/url%5D">http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StaplesProductDisplay?prodCatType=0&storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&productId=11061&cmArea=SC1:CG821:DP100:CL10000</a></p>

Careful. Some schools do not allow paper to be attached to the walls without some kind of covering on it because of fire hazard.

RE chairs in dorm rooms, generally if you are adding a chair, you have to keep the desk chair too so make sure there is space first...

You might want to get a chair that has the capibility of folding so you have the extra seating space if you need it, and when it's not in use, you can keep it folded in a corner, under the bed or in the closet.

Caution: We just went through move-in @USC and we were very disappointed at how Bed, Bath, & Beyond botched our order. Our first "surprise" was the day before move-in. We weren't the only ones with the idea of loading up the van with our order. Two others were ahead of us and overwhelmed the lone staffer!

When we came back a half hour later, we were horrified to find out that our purchases that we paid for at that store two months earlier (during orientation) were incomplete (despite their confirmation phone calls).

During our third and final visit that afternoon (our ordeal started ~10:30 AM), we were able to back fill the missing items.

The store personnel were very apologetic and accommodating. Regardless, they were shorthanded. Items that we first bought on sale no longer were on sale. The selection was far more sparse the second time around. A few things ended up being redundantly purchased because the store had to first have the item shipped from a diffferent store. For certain things which we thought we already took care of (e.g. sheets), we just couldn't plan on going a day without them

Again, the store personnel were easily overwhelmed. The answer? I don't knowutconsider yourself warned of the possibility!

^ they may have booked extra staff for the next day, but not predicted much interest for the day before move-in, which is sort of understandable. The local BBB here was packed full when I went to get a fan, but I don't think they realized there are actually three move in days here. So saturday was superbusy, but I don't think they were anticipating it.

as far as hanging stufff- i suggest the 3m command strips for poster hanging. You can buy a pack of 12 - at walmart for about $2.00 they work much better than putty, you can hang more than just posters - right now I have my surround sound speakers hanging, and two paintings.. and two posters too. here's a link <a href="http://www.shoplet.com/office/db/MMM17024.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.shoplet.com/office/db/MMM17024.html</a></p>

i would stick away from the putty stuff because it's very tempramental and you never know if it will stick or not. at my school, blue stuff worked, yellow stuff didn't, and white stuff did occasionally.. it also has a tendency to gunk up your posters. all of the moisture in the putty managed to seap through and ruin the edges of my posters after one year.

B,B & B a fantastic report-
Earlier this week we made our selections in NJ, and I was suspicious that this would go well at the store near Notre Dame.

Could not have gone smoother. We walked about 20 feet in the store, and Leslie, a manager greeted us. She directed us to a table in the back corner, where a military-like operation was going on. Michael greeted us, marked off our name from a list with 150 other orders.

Then, this was impressive, three other employeers retrieved the boxes, and checked off every item from the list, and then loaded that into our cart for check out. We USED TWO COUPONS, all that I could find, and ended up paying 1% less overall, because Indiana as lower sales tax ...............

B,B & B my favorite Store :)
