BB&B vs IKEA

^Exactly. Whereas the stuff I got from Target is incredible quality. I’ve had it for a year now…no problems.

I’ve done basically all my school shopping at Target this summer, except for my clothes. I’m actually going later today to get some miscellaneous stuff. ^_^

I buy general items at Target, but for furniture, IKEA is great. It isn’t necessarily the highest quality, but it’s cheap, and works. (I’m speaking for a college student/apartment. I wouldn’t expect someone to furnish their entire house via IKEA, though that’s certainly doable. I’ve had some furniture from IKEA for many many years, and it’s amazing.)

I just put together two things from IKEA and my hands are blistered from the screw driver.

Target and BB&B have some nice quality things for inexpensive. I get a lot of my decor from both stores and they neither look cheap or tacky. I have a huge problem with Ikea in that respect because their things are not only cheap they also LOOK cheap. Sometimes you can get cheap decor there that looks okay but if you want anything for practical usage then you should seriously check out another store.

Target bedspreads are cheaply made. You can usually get much better quality at BB&B.

^^Haha yea there is an Ikea that is like the size of a mall here, and then the MOA is across the street.

Ikea is not near us I wish there was one even in our state
. we can only see it on-line.

Ikea! I love ikea, especially for furniture… yeah it’s kinda cheap but for a dorm it’s totally fine. The other suggestions are also good if you don’t have an ikea around though.
But realistically, I suggest looking online and on Craigslist too and definitely shopping around.

I’d say Target is your best choice for dorm stuff. I’ve picked up more than half of my things from there. You’ll also find gems at Costco. BBB feels like an old lady’s house.

IKEA has very cheap stuff, meaning you can dispose of it when you are done with it with little regret. Although the two things I bought from IKEA, some side tables and a bookshelf was poorly manufactured with ill pre-drilled holes and such.

Wal-Mart or Target. You’ll save SO much! Honestly Wal-Mart had some pretty decent stuff this year at great prices, and I usually hate shopping there.

Garage sales and flea markets. Got a decent wooden Ikea table for $3, a Hindu elephant end table for $2, a free desk that works well, porch chairs for $5. I bought a pullout loveseat for my room from Ikea. Got two wooden dressers from Target for $24. I got a good amount of stuff for free from people who were moving out of their apartments and stuff from my parents. Buy used if you can because you probably aren’t going to keep dorm stuff forever, or even apartment stuff. You’ll probably give a lot of it away when you move out or pitch it.

It depends on what you’re looking for, I think. I live right next to ikea and the only thing I have ever bought there so far is a mini sofa bed-- something I could find nowhere else in the dimensions I needed, ikea is good for wonky stuff like that. It’s too expensive otherwise. I generally shop at target or meijer (sort of a midwestern target), unless I need some sort of specialty item I can only find at BBB.
