BB CR question: Pg 874 # 12

Ok, well obviously I am not gonna type up the whole passage just to have one question answered. However, if someone could look at their bb and help me out with this question, I'd rly appreciate it. Number 12 was kind of hard for me because I couldn't decide between C and D. I kind of understood that studious could mean "deliberate" in this passage;however, ingenuine just seems like a better fit. Why does studious in this sentence mean deliberate rather than ingenuine in this particular passage?

Thanks,
Robbie
