BB p725 #26

Professor Chen repeated [her point that] the hero, if [given] the chance [to relive] the moment, would choose to [do it].

[do it] is wrong, but why?

ambiguous? But how? How should you rewrite it?

A pronoun can only replace one word so D has a faulty pronoun reference. “it” has no antecedent and thus incorrectly refers to the idea that the hero would choose to relive the moment.

Possible correct version:
Professor Chen repeated her point that the hero, if given the chance to relive the moment, would choose to do so.

^ha that’s what I was gonna say… Replace it with so. :)

what? What’s “so” supposed to be then? Isn’t it a pronoun too?

“So” is not a pronoun since it doesn’t stand in place of a noun.
