BBA Scholars?

So I got a founders' scholarship (3.0, 35 ACT, Eagle Scout, Class President, Cross Country Captain, and 6 or 7 other ECs), does anyone know what my chances are for becoming a BBA Scholar?

The BBA Scholars admission board is completely separate entity from the admissions office. They have their own committee that selects around 50 freshmen to be immediately invited into to the business school as a freshman. The criteria they use is not posted, but they usually take the top of the crop students.

For the students who are not BBA Scholars DO NOT FREAK OUT! It’s not the end the world. All you have to do is get 3.3 in your cumulative GPA and business subset. This is not bad at all and very achievable. I did it and the vast majority of the students get into the business school that way.

Keep in mind. They might invite you in the BBA Scholars Program separate from you Acceptance letter.

Stocksandblondes you sound like you would get in, but that is just based on above par application in my opinion, but there is no way to know what criteria they use for sure.

@stocksandblondes Did you mean a 4.0? It would be difficult to get BBA Scholar with a 3.0, even with your high ACT and good ECs.

3.0 unweighted 3.7 weighted

Unfortunately I am going to guess no. Competition is very stiff. Your tests and ECs are stellar, but Cox is typically interested in freshman students who will excel in upper division classes. They want strong, consistent academic performance. And SMU uses unweighted grades. I hope I’m wrong, but I think it’s a longshot, knowing the stats of other kids who got in when my child did. It’s a very rigorous program for undergrads, so waiting may be abetter bet anyways. BTW, his unweighted was 3.8, and all of his BBA Scholar friends were at or above that. Amazing ECs, but his ACT was 31, so maybe that helps you. Please let us know. Good luck!

I got in!!!

stocksandblondes, congrats! how were you notified?

Through the mail!

My son got his BBA Scholar letter today too! We are so excited! Again we live in Colorado in case others are wondering how far the mail got.

Merry Christmas!

I got in :)

I got my BBA Scholar letter yesterday too!! Great Christmas Eve present  I was wondering if that means I’ll be likely to receive any more money in scholarships from SMU? I got the Second Century ($20,000) scholarship already, but the letter said that BBA Scholars will be looked at first for Cox scholarships, and that there are BBA exclusive scholarships. Any estimates on how much more aid I could receive?

I’ve received my Cox acceptance letter as well. :)

Hope this helps!

sunshine341: All of the scholarships Cox gives out are worth $5,000 a year for all four years ($20,000 total). Of course, in order to keep that scholarship your college GPA has to remain above a 3.0. I am a current BBA scholar and I recieved one of these scholarships  My year, Class of 2015, had about 100 BBA scholars and I would say that half of us recieved the Cox Scholarship.

Congrats to everyone who has already been named a BBA Scholar! If you have any questions about the program, feel free to ask me!

I got in to Cox on about christmas day. I was also put in the honors program (I don’t know if this is one in the same or not). I have also received a BBA distinguished scholars scholarship, along with a second century scholarship.

I had an ACT of 32
no class rank
no GPA

I have had a TON of family members go to SMU.

I got the BBA Distinguished Scholarship Today :)

Very excited as my son got his letter about the Business school scholarship as well!
In case others are waiting, we live in Colorado and it came today.
