do a few B's (lets say 4-5), mess up ur chances at an ivy like cornell, or any other good school ?

I am in the same situation. From what I've heard, what years you got them in is most critical. If they are all from freshman yr, you have no worries at all.

Any other years they hurt some, but straight A's jr year is a huge plus.

I got into a Caltech with Bs in English and social studies so I guess you should be fine. Just don't get Bs in the subject you intend to major in.

like suppose if you get a B in Chem H or AP Chem, but u want to major in Bio Chem and got an A in bio, is that okay?

errr imo a truly qualified applicant wouldn't have been so reckless in their freshman year.

no need to be so harsh, lolok...I mean, some people don't realize their dream until sophomore year, when they stop slacking.

It depends on how competitive your school is. If your Bs put you out of the top 10%, it's probably a deal breaker for ivies unless you are exceptional in some other way (a major hook).

Ok blackbelt, fair enough, but there are plenty of other applicants who DID recognize their dream before their sophomore year. They're the better applicant.

ok..its like this. B's in freshman don't have any effect. however, after freshman, any grade lower than an A can hurt your chances because, let think about, you are competiting for spots against people who have straight A's

i feel that my only hook is being accepted to a competitive science research program (Rockefeller Institute). I have had 5 B's (2 freshman yr). Am I still in the running for cornell?

not likely, what's ur class rank and test scores

Are the Bs in weighted classes (does that matter?) ?

That helps, esp. if the school ranks on weighted scales not unweighted scales.

Do grades even count AT ALL freshmen year?

If they don't that sux cuz I got a 4.0 uw

yeah they count in your GPA. those with bad grades freshman year have lower GPAs.

my gpa is a 93 uw, 95 w. I am expecting 700+ on subject tests including chem, us, and math Ic. And yes they are in weighted classes (H).

that's actually pretty good...I dunno, really depends on your school and a little bit of luck...I'm 95 uw and 101w and I'm not looking at Ivy...
(we actually don't go by percent numbers, rather the 12 pt. scale, so I have a 11.45 uw and 12.15w)

i was thinking of applying to cas. is it possible

No. I got into schools that were quite competitive this year with a few Cs. You're fine.

straight a's with no personality is ****... i think colleges prefer a few b's if you have other things...
