I am undecided between Psychology and Business as my major. When applying to Boston College i am supposed to select one of the four undergraduate divisions. (Nursing, Education, Management, Arts & Sciences) My major interests would place me in either Management or Arts & Sciences so which one should I apply to? Are the chances of acceptance different depending on the chosen undergraduate division?

Business/Management is harder to get into, I believe, but I’m not sure by how much. I have heard that if you apply Psych/CAS and then want to switch into business later it will be difficult or impossible to do so. If you apply business and then down the line decide you’d rather do psychology it should be an easy switch to make.

admit rates are similar to A&S and CSOM. My recommendation is to lead with your strengths; for example, if your EC’s scream entrepreneurship, apply to CSOM.

but the above poster is correct in that it is extremely difficult to transfer from A&S into CSOM since they accept few transfers each year.

My kid is in similar situation – really likes BC and would do econ but really wants business. On a recent BC campus tour and subsequent adcom rep visit to his school the point was clearly made that the admit rates between the CAS and CSOM are very similar and you can transfer out of CSOM but not into it. I would not be surprised to see him do CSOM EA. He’s way more excited about BC ( at this point) than he was UVa, Mich, Wisc, Cornell and Notre Dame.

^^as a BIG fan of a liberal arts degree, over a biz degree, I’d recommend Econ every time.

but to be fair, Michigan-Ross is one of the few undergrad biz schools that have national cachet, which in biz, is important.
