BC (Boston College) vs UVA

I'm trying to decide between BC and UVA. I love Boston as a city but don't know much about Virginia.
Based on both academics, campus and social life which school is better?

Any info is much appreciated. Thanks!!

A few details may be helpful. Have you been accepted to both and have you visited both? If you have been accepted but have not made visits, if at all possible, I would highly recommend doing this. What are you planning on studying, are you OOS at both (assuming you are at UVA based on your post), are you being offered financial aid at either (or more are finances even a consideration)? Much depends on what YOU like as the schools are different. Where are you from? This will help determine what you feel is a small town. Charlottesville is smaller than Boston, however that is all relative based on where you are from. Some feel Charlottesville has a ‘southern feel’ to it (I do not…) but this is subject to where you are from. If you give us something to go on, we can give you more specific answers.

I’ve been accepted to both but couldn’t visit the schools. I’m from Istanbul-Turkey.
No financial aid from either school (tuition isn’t a consideration)
I didn’t choose a major yet probably an area in liberal arts but I also consider communication.

In general, which school do you think is a better option?

Thanks!

Good information to know. I can not speak to BC so hope that someone will pipe in with first-hand information.
I will put in the disclaimer here that I am a native to VA, about 90min from Charlottesville, and love the campus of UVa.
I’m sure you know that UVa has approx 13k students. Charlottesville is a wonderful town that embraces UVa. There is a lot to do there and it’s proximity to Washington DC make it great if you want to go. There are many students from that area so it’s never a problem to get a ride. Greek life is present but not dominant. I do not know academic rankings on Liberal Arts as my S is engineering and we have been focused on that. I am not a huge fan of rankings so I don’t put much stock in them. UVa is not the top in the nation in sports, however they love their teams and support them fully. Football and basketball is well attended and a great event. The campus is beautiful. It is neither a urban or rural setting. Charlottesville is a wonderful college town.
This is a question that would be good to post on the individuals schools forum as well. The UVa forum is very active. I’m sure you would get a good response from the BC forum as well.
Congratulations on your admissions! Good luck. They are both excellent universities. It is a matter of trying to determine which would be the best fit for you! :)

UVa no doubt. Beautiful weather, happy students, great quality of life, excellent academics

go to BC boston isn’t a huge city like New York. it’s small and very clean the train system is great and there’s a stop at BC so it’s very easy to get around Boston. also it’s a great college town and the campus is gorgeous.

uva for the overall college experience

Academics: UVa in general, but what is your intended major?

Campus: it depends - both are beautiful; BC is more suburban, but sits right on the Boston City line, with a trolley/subway train stop across the street from campus, while UVa = Charlottesville = college town

Social life: it depends

The latter two depend more on your personality style. UVa offers the quintessential collegiate experience in a small town.

But for an international, I would recommend Boston. The city is much, much easier to get to from home, the city has more international types running around (so you won’t fell so lonely)…

I have visited both colleges and prefer BC, but it’s really up to you. BC is right outside Boston with a great, compact campus. UVA has a bigger campus thats directly in the town of charlottesville, not to close to any major city. Both are similar academically and athletically. I don’t have any experience socially, so i don’t really know. But UVA is bigger.

I love Boston, but my feeling is to go where the academics are better. BC has a phenomenal Communications dept, but that’s about it. UVA is an incredible school, and you will meet many people from all over the place. They are friendlier there than people in Boston, but that isn’t a huge concern for me. I always go with academics, so here you go: UVA
