Hey guys, I am extremely interested in BC, Brown University and the University of Chicago. Basically my assets (in my mind at least) are everything except GPA… any advice? Am I crazy for applying to these schools???

-AP Tests: (Star means haven’t taken it)
Euro History: 4
APUSH: *4/5
Lang and Comp: *4/5
Chem: *2/3 (not a science guy…)
World History *4/5

I was accepted to BC this year. I would say you have a chance to get in, but not a great one. My advice is to try to raise your SAT score a bit (BC’s average is 2040, I think) and also your GPA. AP scores are self-reported, so I wouldn’t think admissions would place too much weight on those. Your awards and ECs are both good, and shouldn’t hurt your chances at all.
Despite what BC has to offer, I, personally, cannot afford to attend this year. The financial aid department was a wreck to work with, and they are expecting me to pay $35k more than my EFC. In my situation, a top-notch state school seems to be the most logical choice this year. That being said, BC is a very good school, and if you can pay the price they are asking, I would certainly recommend attending.
to be fair, your weighted is a little on the low side, from my high school the people who are admitted to boston college usually have a 4.25wgpa atleast. But your SAT score seems to be alright, try taking it again and surpassing 2100.
Depends on what school you are applying to (CSOM, CSON, etc…). I applied this year to CSOM w/ 2000 SAT & 3.92 WGPA and got waitlisted. As admissions gets more competitive every year, I’d say you are on the low end unless you have really good EC’s. Good luck!
Why do you want to go to a school that has had virtually no revolutionary minds working for it? I get that it’s among the best Catholic schools in the country, with Notre Dame and Holy Cross as its brothers… but if you want a great education, you can get one with your numbers at a great number of genius-teacher-laden schools.
A 3.85 weighted is a 3.5 unweighted, I’m guessing.
A 2020 is strong for admission to a number of schools with really, really, really smart people teaching you. Much smarter than you are, or the people teaching at BC.
I say this so that if you do not get in to BC, you will have some perspective to help soften the blow. You are clearly a smart, hard-working person with a bright future. No one school’s judgment can alter that. So maybe take a step back and look at the quality of education other schools can offer.
Thank you to ALL who have posted. Very helpful. Unweighted it is a 3.34, but idk what that is out of (our school is weird with that… I did the weighted because it is more universal). My strength of schedule on the College Board Website is the highest option.
I am torn between applying to the Arts and Science college and the Lynch school of education. I would love either…

While your GPA is low, you definitely have some great ECs and leadership. MUN looks particularly impressive to colleges, and it’s good that you’re taking honors and APs.
@sugliac - Going to have to apologize. I thought I was responding in another thread. Not sure how that happened. For your situation, your GPA and SAT scores are too low for Brown and UChicago. You have a shot at BC, but it’s not a super great shot. As someone else said, you should try to raise that SAT. As it is, you are probably just on the outside looking in.
