BC Calc

Hi Guys,
I just wanted to know I colleges prefer a student to take AP Calculus BC in school or if they "ok" skipping it?
Thanks

if you skip it to take a 5th year of a foreign language instead, and you plan to apply to LACs as a language major, it's fine. If you skip it to take a study hall and you plan to apply to MIT as a math major, it's a really bad idea.

Or are you talking about skipping the course in school and self-studying for the exam instead?

I heard MIT doesn't accept AP Calc AB grades from a senior at my school who got into MIT early decision. If have to take the BC exam.

I was thinking about taking the Multi-Variable Calculus Class my Junior year, the hardest math class offered by my school. I am not sure if it will be worth considering how important Calculus is.

I see. You want to take multivariable instead of AP calc, which you have presumably learned outside of school. Sounds impressive to me. You can still take the AP exam after multivariable and have the best of all worlds.

(Sophomore - MIT does not give credit for the calc AB exam the way they do for a 5 on the BC exam. But it certainly "counts" in the sense that they can see that you took calculus and not study hall. Many high schools only offer AB, if they offer calc at all.)
