Does anyone know if being a BC legacy applicant carries any added value in admissions? And, if so, who does BC consider to be a legacy? My DS has a grandpa who went to BC (but different last name than ours) & we can’t remember if the Common App asked for his info… Just wondering. Thanks.
From the BC website:
“Does legacy status factor into the admission evaluation process?
Boston College does consider legacy status when evaluating applications for admission. Please note that you will be considered a legacy applicant only if your mother or father graduated from Boston College.”
Aaaah, that sounds familiar. Thanks @TomSrOfBoston for doing my google search for me! Sorry to have troubled you for easy to find info…
Amazing that BC only has mother and father on the application. Other comparable Catholic universities want every family connection. According to BC, my daughter just had her mom as alumni but Villanova and others know her mother, both grandparents, aunt, uncles and three cousins also ate BC grads! Super legacy should matter to BC!
@charlieFL Yeah, I seem to remember that my son was able to note on his BC app that his grandpa (my dad) went to BC… but maybe they don’t really consider it or give any legacy preference for 2nd generation legacies. As for Villanova, my son’s 2 uncles (my brother in laws) went there & Nova definitely wanted to know names & grad dates. And way back when…in the '80s… my BC interviewer/admin officer flat out told me I’d get because BC reserved 15% of the incoming class for legacies… I think that BC’s popularity & rise in the rankings has led to much more restrictive/discretionary application of the legacy status.
Agree! Sadly, think they are going the way of Georgetown and losing their founding roots.
No $ sent this year to their never ending campaigns until after we receive a decision.
@charlieFL Totally understand about not sending the $$ until receiving a decision. When our son was deferred at our alma mater, we decided that Duke can live without our $200/year LOL.
