BC or Carnegie Mellon?

I got into the college of science for both and I don’t know where to attend. Please help!

Subject line says it all. From a purely academic perspective, CMU is top notch in the sciences and engineering, and seems to have a wonderful interdisciplinary program. Things BC has going for it are a great city and a football team :-)

I have to make this choice too, but what about from the other end of the spectrum? I want to do english/creative writing/photography/theatre...

I would pick BC from a liberal arts/English standpoint. CMU if you were doing engineering or Computer Science.

What about just sciences?

i think CMU is better at the sciences, but I would rather be at BC

BC all the way baby!!!!

i have a question... why is CMU so much higher than BC on the US news rankings?

who knows why any school is where they are on US News

if it wasnt for US news I wouldnt have a debate about where I am going

USNews uses different factors to determine its rank, like peer assesment, average sat scores, endowment, etc.. It says it on the usnews website.

But CMU is more selective, so it's not really surprising. Although personally I would rather be at BC for the social and geographical reasons.

CMU is more selective? College board lies.

Carnegie Mellon:
Test Scores
Middle 50% of
First-Year Students Percent Who
Submitted Scores
SAT Reasoning Verbal: 610 - 710 98%
SAT Reasoning Math: 680 - 760 98%

Boston College:
Test Scores
Middle 50% of
First-Year Students Percent Who
Submitted Scores
SAT Reasoning Verbal: 610 - 700 96%
SAT Reasoning Math: 640 - 720 96%

CMU is slightly more selective. There are other factors in selectivity, but SAT scores are usually a good indicator.

ohhh, ok, that makes sense. I was just looking at % admitted as a measure of selectivity (college board puts CMU at 39% and BC at 31%. However, this isn't so reliable, as it says Duke is 22% when it is really 19%).

i'm trying to make the same decision but i wanna major in psych./maybe music. opinions?

well, cmu has a great psych program, and it's the only school in the nation that lets you major in bagpipes!

hahaha no wayyyy! maybe i'll take up bagpipes just for that reason :D
