Hey everyone, I’m wondering if anyone knows how strong the political science department is at BC? I can’t find anything on the relative strength of the undergrad. program. Does anyone know how it is viewed?

Thanks

its absolutely fantastic. i went to the accepted students day and i sat in on a lecture by a member of the political department, and it was absolutely amazing
BCs poli sci is considered very very good in terms of political theory and ideology (the fun stuff behind politics). however, in terms of stats / modeling and all the real world political analyst type politics, its not AS good (not bad, obviously, but not as good as their theory department). it really depends on what you’re trying to gain from your poli sci education
im also gonna take a lot of politics classses, but that is more for my enjoyment - so i would LOVE studying the theory and dont care as much about the statistics. on the other hand, if you want to use your major in poly sci and work you may want to talk to someone else at the department - the guy said that they just hired some new professors specifically to teach the stats stuff, so its definitely improving. and by the time we graduate (i assume, 2015) it’ll be top notch
overall, fantastic program - truly one of the reasons i settled on BC

Poli Sci is one of those basic, generic majors that any and every undergrad college offers. There really is no ‘better’ or ‘best’. (You can find great Poli Sci teachers at community colleges.) If your goal is law school, the ONLY thing that matters is gpa+lsat. Taking classes from a world-renown professor is of zero value.
