I love both schools, and with all things considered (financially, academically, socially, etc), their pros and cons even out for me.

For example, it would cost me $40k+ a year to attend BC, while Bentley would only cost me approximately $15k per year due to merit scholarships. I’m going in business undecided and I know both their business programs are great, perhaps BC’s is a little better. I’m irked BC does not have a Greek system, but I hear the social life at BC is never lacking. Bentley, however, does have a Greek system and I think that would be a great experience I’d like to partake in.

Some other issues are alumni connections, such as how BC seems to have a “take care of our own” mentality, or so I’ve heard. I’m also afraid to miss out on the opportunity to attend a well-known school with national prestige like BC, just because Bentley gave me a much better offer financially. Going to BC is still affordable and I would definitely come out of four years debt-free. However, if I were to decide to attend some sort of graduate program afterwards, that might be a slight issue.

A week ago, I thought I would definitely attend BC if financially it were possible, but now that those details are pretty much set in stone, I’m not sure what to do (possibly cuz they wouldn’t give me more money lol). I do love Bentley, but I just don’t want to realize I love BC more when it’s way too late. I’ve made a pros and cons list, but the more I think about it, I literally have no gut feeling on what to decide.

So, is being an Eagle worth the hefty price tag?! Please chime in with any comments or advice. It would be unbelievably appreciated!

Where will the extra $25,000/year come from to pay for BC? Are your parents rich and generous? If not, do you and your parents plan to borrow $100,000? That would be a bitter pill that will haunt you for decades after graduation.

There’s money some that is for me to do what I want with. I will pay for half, my parent will pay for the other half, and I will be debt-free. However, if I have more money left over after 4 years, which would be the case if I attended Bentley, then wouldn’t that be ideal?

How serious are you about business? At BC, you could change your major to something in liberal arts. Bentley barely offers any non-biz courses.

How serious are you about living in the NE? While Bentley may have an excellent reputation with local Boston employers, it will not carry as far as a BC degree in biz. Plus, BC alums are everywhere.

How much do you like to read and write? BC’s CORE will make you an excellent writer (whether you like it or not!).

How about D1 sports?

But BC is more than just biz. It’s a Jesuit education, and that is something very special. Whether its worth $25k more to you is something only you can decide.

If your family was well off, then BC 100%. If not, then GO TO Bentley. If you dont like it, transfer to BC. You’ll end up saving a lot of money.

A high school classmate of mine got in to BC, but couldn’t afford to go, so she went to Community College for two years and then transfer back in. She ended up paying $70k for her BC diploma. And her diploma smells, looks, feels and is just as real as any four-year BC diploma.

Did she miss out on a lot of the BC experience? Sure. But she made the best of her two years at BC and she didn’t have $75k additional debt + interests to worry about. So go for the money.

You say that you will be debt free, will your parents be debt free as well with either option?

bluebayou, you bring up extremely valid points, all of which I do not know the answers to at the age of 18. Mind you, I have considered them, but I feel like none of them have to be a sure thing. At this point in my life, I think I would like to go into business, that I could potentially fall in love with the east coast, and I have excelled in my AP English classes. But I think anything could change at any point so idk.

Reddune, so you’re saying the BC experience is indeed worth the price tag. My family can handle the expense (in face, my mom leans toward BC rather than Bentley) so yes, freecycle, she will also be debt-free if I choose BC.

I guess it really is a personal decision I will have to mull over some more. And by mull over I mean torture myself until my brain catches on fire. Everyone’s counsel was greatly appreciated :)
