Accepted EA to BC, and Honors CAS at BU. Have visited and like both schools. Plan to major in biology and pursue pre-med. Got decent grant at BU, nothing at BC. Any thoughts/opinions on which school would be a better choice, pros or cons, etc?

I think for bio, BC is definitely stronger..it depends on how much money you got at BU, but still I think you should go to BC unless its more than half tuition at BU.

I was also wondering about this. What is the BU personality versus the BC personality? Open-mindedness vs Close-mindedness? Diversity? Gays at BC?

Mimi, I am in almost the same position as you are. I plan to go pre-med also, was given money at BU, and was accepted to their honors program. I wound up choosing BC, because I have been told that their academics have a better reputation when you go onto graduate school, and I just felt like I fit better at BC. When deciding, also take into account which school is a better fit, and where you would be happiest.

Juvo, from what I've read and seen, BC is not very diverse at all. If you're looking specifically at statistics, BU is about 58% white, while BC is about 70% (a relatively high percentage for a large University). If you're looking for diversity I'd dare say BC isn't the place for you.

Who care about diversity. If you doing pre-med, you be in a two four-hour labs a week, taking another 15 hours worth of lecture, and enough homework to drown a cow (yes, I said drown). Will you even have enough time to produce Vitamin E let alone making "diverse" friends.

By the way, this is tongue-in-cheek reply.

Haha. Good point Reddune. Right now I'm leaning more towards BC. I have a good chance of getting into the honors program there as well which I think would prepare me best for the MCATs and look great for med school, IMO.

Well, regardless, I did some researching and this website pretty much made all my fears about BC regarding diversity come alive:

I'm going to the Admitted Students Day; hopefully, it won't be as portrayed, but alas, there's always BU.

Honestly, as a student of color, BCTruth exaggerates everything they say. I've been here for two years, and everyone I've met (caucasian or colors) has been amiable and considerate. Of course there are bad apples, what school doesn't have them? But they are of the smallest minority that it doesn't take away from the experience I have at BC.

Did you check out the BC pre-med - Tufts program yet? Tha'ts what I hope to do. You have guaranteed admission to Tufts med school. It's on their site. BC has stronger bio than BU, and smaller classes, etc.

Actually, many people would say the premed program at BU is better than BC's. Diff'rent strokes. Check which program would be best for you—which is more likely to give you more individualized attention? The honors program at BU is probably comparable or better to the regular premed program at BC.

"many people would say the premed program at BU is better than BC's"

Huh, who? Most people say that BC is the greatest school in the universe. Who? you might ask? Some people say it, so isn't that self-evident? If you're going to rely on "many people" at least list who those people are and what kind of credential they have to qualify them as expert in judging the caliber of different program.

"The honors program at BU is probably comparable or better to the regular premed program at BC."
Base on what? Do you have data to back this off. I don't claim that BC is better than BU because I don't have the emperical data that says so, do you lolabelle?

Re-read my post. I'm saying it's not as black-and-white as some above posters would make it seem—a good amount of people would probably say one premed program is better than the other; several would probably say they're pretty comparable.

So you are defense against misleading information is more misleading information? God, dang, what kind of education are you getting at your college?

I'm reading it a let see what you offer:

"Actually, MANY people would say the premed program at BU is better than BC's. Diff'rent strokes. Check which program would be best for you—which is more likely to give you more individualized attention? The honors program at BU is PROBABLY comparable or better to the regular premed program at BC."

Your two major statements comparing the two institutions use the word "many" and "probably." Where is the concrete evidence? To be fair, I would like to ask mnwinwin to produce the evidence that BC offer smaller classes than BU.
