Hi! I’m planning on majoring in biology and being pre-med. I’m trying to decide between Boston College and Holy Cross (i was accepted into their pre-med program). I know that Holy Cross has a fabulous pre-med program, but Boston College might be a better, more well-known school with better connections. I visited them both (and will visit again before my final choice) and loved both campuses. I’d appreciate any thoughts you might have on the subject. Thanks!

I don’t think it really matters which school you attend for pre-med; both will prepare you adequately, and success at either university will get you into medical school. I would focus more on size, location, culture, etc. when making your decision.

Just because a school is more prestigious does not guarantee in any matter you will be accepted to the better medical school by any means. There are so many factors and things that could happen between now and medical school applications.

Boston College does have a stronger alumni network and connections, but what is that going to help with your acceptance into medical school? Holy Cross is smaller, so students will have a greater connection and relationship with their professors. Either school is strong in pre-med so you can go either way. If you are looking for a greater social life and experience in college, then BC is the way. If you are strictly academic, Holy Cross is the way.

HC has great pre-med program with new science building. Holy Cross has a strong medical alumni network including Nobel Prize winner.

I’m in the same exact situation… haha… i’m visiting BC next week and HC the week after…only time can tell

HC is less than 3000 students. BC is over 9000 students. Both top notch and both run by the Jesuits. Pick the one you feel most comfortable at.

Much, much different environments. A LAC vs a mid-sized Uni. Small town vs. big city.

Sure, HC boasts of a high admission rate to med school, but they also make clear that that high % is based on the fact that HC screens out students that HC believes not worthy of admission. If you are not accepted into the premed track as a matriculating Frosh, you have to “apply” at the end of Soph year. Not very ‘welcoming’, IMO.

Not sure I would call a city of 172,000 a small town unless you were from China ;->
