BC vs. NYU

Can someone who knows about each of these compare some aspects of each from personal knowledge (I've researched both in-depth but I'm still torn)...some things you could compare is the academics, dorms, campus, ect.

Let me add I was accepted EA to BC, but haven't applied to NYU yet and I have a few more days to decide whether I should even bother applying to NYU if I decide on BC. I'm def. leaning more towards BC but I just want to hear more opinions before I make my final decision.

This is what I know about BC and NYU. It's probably not going to be very useful since you've done extensive research.

BC - Jesuit, fairly strong academics, strong sports scene, good looking girls, good alumni connections in Boston area.

NYU - I was accepted there 2 years ago through RD for Stern. Chose not to attend because I've heard a few bad things about Stern. Quality of student life is not very high due to extreme and cutthroat competitiveness between Sternies - classes are curved, competition for internships, for recognition etc. It is however, a credible feeder school for many i-banking and finance jobs. If you like to be very competitive, then you should consider. Stern aside, the Tisch school is amazing. Not sure about the other schools.

Thanks, I'm interested in the premed path.

^ Doug Flutie

any more opinions?

What are you looking for in a college?

A good education with a good time.

You can get both at BC. It's pretty famous for that.

NYU can be a hell of a good time but you have to be the right "type" of person..NYC is amazing and there is plenty to do.. many students are from out of state so you have a good mix of different types of people.. but if you are not outgoing and independent, forget it, it's not a "typical" college campus experience that's nice and safe, where everything is put on a plate for you...but if you participate and get yourself involved, being at NYU and New York City is a unique kind of experience that you can't duplicate anywhere else...

This is one of the weirdest threads yet. These two colleges and their students could not be more different. If you visit each, there is no way you could have difficulty deciding which one you prefer.

DT is COMPLETELY WRONG....Stern students are competitive? yes Cutthroat? no. They reduce the effect of the infamous "stern curve" like a year ago. Competition for internships is almost non-existant...anyone who wants one has one with relatively little effort. The alumni connection is nothing short of amazing. NYU as an overall school is better than BC and certainly trumps it for business and there is plenty to do like Track87 said.

Thanks for your opinions everyone...and I know the schools are completely different, but I'm not sure of which I want..I think I will visit BC on the eagle day and see if my mind is made by then and just apply to NYU anyway.

IMO

BC-more conservative, nice campus, decent athletics, good academics

NYU-more liberal, not much of a campus feel at all, academics are probably good, you have NYC...

I would go with BC.

Thanks I think I'm going to go with BC!!!

decent athletics?

BC has some of the best athletics for any college of its calibre

ixi, NYU is not a better school 'in general' than BC

they are both good schools that are hard to compare, so you can't really say which one is 'better'.

It depends on what you want from your school, your fit and your major.
