I was wondering if anyone could tell me IN GENERAL which school you consider to be better. I know biology wise, UCSD would be better, but I am not sure if I want to go into biology, and if anything I would want to go pre-vet maybe. I know BC has a whole pre-vet path set.
Also, which school would have a stronger international relations program? I could also use some facts and opinions about BC that could help sway my parents right now, because they are pretty set for UCSD since it is much cheaper (I’m a cal resident). Would I be able to ask for more financial aid, especially since my dad may not have a job anymore within these next few months? Or if he does find himself with a job still later, would I be able to get any money from BC if I tell them I want to come here but UCSD is financially better for me? I really do not want to get stuck with tons of debt if I go to BC, especially since I’m going to attempt to get into a top notch grad school.
One of the main reasons why I like BC better than SD is the school spirit part, the size of the school and classes, and how it’s far away from my home and my peers that I know I would run into at SD.

dude!!! i am deciding between those two schools too!! are you nor or so cal (i'm nor) ? im leaning towards BC tho. and WORD on the school spirit thing, the size, and the whole familiarity thing.

I'm from the bay area! I am definitely leaning towards BC because I visited SD and am not feeling the campus. SD may have been a bit more appealing if there wasn't so many people from my school there.. The main problem I'm having with convincing my parents for BC is the cost. Anyone think they would match or better a 15k scholarship Northeastern gave me? I got into the honors program there too, so that is another possibility at this point.

i stayed at UCSD for three weeks during the summer and there was nothing there that really excited me. Just a bunch of drab buildings set randomly in the city of La Jolla. Now who can match BC's mix of beautiful architecture and sprawling campus set right outside of Boston!!

oh yeah, and 85% of ucsd kids return for sophomore year compared to bc's 96%. guess there's something about bc...

Dear playmo : Boston College will not match the $15K scholarship from Northeastern as BC is strictly driven based on need for the regular decision admissions groups. (The only scholarships available are the presidential scholarships.) As an aside, there is no comparison between BC's honors program and that offered by Northeastern. These two schools are substantially apart on the competitive landscape.
