I’m choosing to put in either BC or USC in my college list but I don’t know which one. I was thinking of applying as an Education major (my first choice) for BC but USC doesn’t have a major for Education so I was thinking to apply as a Psychology major (my second choice). Can anyone give me a few insights for each of the schools? (ex. BC has an education major but USC doesn’t) Thank you in advance!!
They are both rather selective. Why not apply to both and see where are admitted?
Major is an issue - why attend a college that doesn’t have the major you want? If your current plan is to teach, why would you give that up to attend USC?
These schools are very different in size, location and culture. Do you prefer large, urban, with Greek system, LA, or do you prefer medium size, suburban, Jesuit, Boston?
Do you prefer east or west coast after college graduation?
USC is really great. BC as well. Lynch school of education at BC is very well thought of and it’s its own major school at BC not just a major. LA is warmer. BC campus is more traditional. And football stadium is right there to walk to and two major buildings for student entertainment just being finished this year and next Fitness and sports. New integrated sciences and engineering school under way as well. And will be in place while you’re there adding a whole new set of students. But it’s Small. Very beautiful and safe area. USC has a great alumni network. BC on east coast has a monster one as well. Agree with applying to both. Visit and go from there.
But if I say I was not happy when I was a student in USC, can you trust me? Maybe networking here is fantastic but the ranking is misleading. I graduated from USC in the last two years but the class sizes were not that small, which truly disappointed me.
Both are fine schools. Consider:
–location (east v west coast).
–USC is secular and BC is a Jesuit college which likely has a large core curriculum (you can check online)
– finances if that is an issue – you can run NPC for both schools.
– the fact that BC has your preferred major is a plus
