Is it now, JoeySweets?

While I'm not saying the SEC is a shining paragon of academia, I still believe the schools are unduely underrated due to anti-Southern bias.

pshhh, so the SEC may not be tops academically, but I'd put it #1 in football performance. And really guys, what matters more?

Big Ten is number one in football performance.....Penn State(the best) Ohio State, Mich, Mich State, Northwestern, Iowa.....

That's debatable now, but wait a couple years from now. Look at the recruiting rankings for the class of 2006:

UF:1
UGA;3
LSU:5
Bama:7
Auburn:9
Ole Miss 25
Kentucky:28
Tenn:33

now for the big 10
Michigan:12
Ohio State: 19
Illinio 22
Penn state 24
Mich state 37
ourdue 38
Iowa 41
Wisconson 42

Now for those top 8, SEC has average 13.8, while Big 10 has a 29.375

WE'll see who has the clear advantage in the next couple years, and I wouldn't bet against my school UF to win a national championship within my time there.

Admitedly the SEC isn't stellar academically, exemplified by the fact that our (UF) star recruit QB is gonna go on full scholarship with an 890SAT...But theres always a PE major.

That's was from a "Different World", I added the SEC part though.

GatorDan, first of all, the 2006 recruiting class has not signed yet. A lot can happen in the next 6 weeks. Secondly, a highly ranked recruiting class does not always translate into a good team on the field. Team chemistry, injuries, academic and disciplinary problems on and off the field etc...can seriously alter the quality of a recruiting class. And as we know, the lower the recruiting standards, the more likely there are to be academic and disciplinary issues down the line. Finally, 2006 is just one recruiting season. The recruiting classes of 2003, 2004 and 2005 also mean something, as do the classes of 2007, 2008 and 2009.

very true, but given the choice I'd take a top recruiting class over a middling one. Besides the fact the SEC is argueably just as good as the Big 10 now.

We still got Auburn, UF, Georgia, LSU, Bama, Tennesee (they could recover, this year was BAD though) and even Vandy's on the way up if this year is any measure.
