Although it will break them in more, like I said you'll break them in plenty during basic. Most guys I know grabbed theirs on inprocessing and did fine.

But do what you want, 2 more weeks...

My cadet wore the boots twice before leaving for BCT...walked around for a day in them and ran once in them and never had a problem-no blisters. The running shoes that were issued were uncomfortable at first and did produce a few blisters.

Ok...I feel like an idiot, but its kinda funny.

I wear orthotics (had fun with DoDMERB on that one) and so Ive had months of working through shin splints and stuff. Well, I've been running in my boots and im getting those old pains back...even though Ive been wearing my orthotics. Plus, they move around in my boot...very uncomfortable.

Well, here I am freaking out about BCT cause my boots are killing my legs...and then i think to look in my boot.

I forgot to take out the insert that was already in it...so I had my orthotics on top of factory inserts. OOPS!

So I feel better now, lol...anyone else with inserts...take the ones inside out first!!

lol, I took out the factory inserts and put in some gels, very much better. ;)

Everyone recommended gels so I bought them, but I thought they were terrible for the road marches. I ended up putting the original ones back in and haven't switched them since.

Guy4Christ: I wear inserts also (also had a fun time with DoDMERB). I was wondering about that. I'm going to USNA, and they don't give us boots until I-Day. I know I have to take my inserts out for my running shoes, but I wasn't sure if I'd even put them in my boots (because I wasn't sure if the boot inserts came out). Well, now I know! Thanks! Now a question:

Have you noticed a big difference in need for a different sized boot, or is just trying on the boot without your inserts (just the regular boot with regular boot inserts) good enough to determine a size?

You want to size them with your orthotic inserts inside them, otherwise you will end up with a boot that is rather tight on the top of your foot. Also, you need to make sure that its the right length and width for the orthotics (otherwise the orthotic can slide around...very uncomfortable and dangerous for your legs.)

My older brother who is a rising senior at usafa told me that during bct they had to run for an hour each morning. From what i've read on here that is not so (at least not anymore), but I was wondering if anyone knows exactly(approximately) how much running we will be doing during bct? (both w/ and w/o boots) I've been running every other day with my boots with an occasional tennis shoe run on the inbetween days. After reading these posts i think i will switch something like tennis/tennis/boot. any comments?

I heard you rarely run in boots, but I don't see the problem with training in boots, as it makes the tennis shoe run a lot easier. I run 2.5 miles in the afternoon(sun) and 4 miles around 1800 per day in boots. However, I must say that I was the token/sole boot runner among the 2010 cadets at the parent's association meeting. Regarding the distance amounts for BCT, rumor has it that you RUN over a 5K(3.2miles) approx. 3 times, but we will have to do 8 mile MARCHES on occasion- which aren't too bad.

-Sorry, a 5k is actually 3.1miles-

Every BCT is different so noone can tell you that answer but i garuntee that you will be running everyday after the first 3-4 days. Also you guys are suppossed to be having a more physical BCT according to Regni so we'll see.

Everyday in boots or t-shoes?

I think they let us do pt in t-shoes, but I'm not for sure.

You're killin' us with the specifics. Get here in decent shape and you'll be fine.

lol. Sorry, I didn't mean to totally kill the conversation.

So, you never run more than 3 miles in basic and not in your boots, and not at all in your boots for the first week or so. You will have PT everyday (new AF policy), one day you will do calisthenics and the other you will run, sprints or jogs, not long.
The AMTs are getting antsy for ya'll to get here...they're bored...
one word of advice RELAX! You are no longer allowed to be nervous, cause there is nothing more you can do to prepare yourselves, it's way too late for that. You will be fine and survive, just like the rest of us have.

I like that last bit of advice...

I concur with clsoar and Guy4Christ. They will not fail you as long as you don't quit.
