Be a homie and chance a rising senior who is freaking out

Hello! I would first like to thank you guys for taking the time to help me out and assessing my realistic chances of attending any of these colleges.

I'm currently a male junior in a very competitive los angeles public school with a humanities based curriculum. I have a 3.3 (not weighted) gpa and about a 3.5 weighted gpa (approx.). However, I actually failed my math analysis class this year. I know this is a big problem. I will be in my school's top 15%, and maybe the top 10%.

I have a 2020 on my SAT, and plan to take the ACT as well.

Hook: I'm a Mexican male. A lot of the schools I plan on applying to have very small minority populations, so this is a good.

My junior year schedule:
-AP Art History
-AP English Lang
-H US history
-H Spanish 3
-Math Analysis
-Leadership
-Chemistry

My senior year schedule:
-AP Psychology
-AP Environmental Science
-AP Government
-AP English lit
-Marine Biology
-Leadership
-Math Analysis (retaking)

I also took AP Biology my sophomore year.

I'm interested in majoring in environmental studies, and then going to law school.

My extracurriculars:
-1)Involved in a secular Jewish community for 13 years, have been an employee for them since sophomore year. Was promoted to leadership position for this, and next year.
-2)Founder/President Amnesty International student group since sophomore year
-3)Young Democrats club since freshman year
-4)Currently participating in a very selective high school internship program sponsored bu the city of Los Angeles in which I am working with one of the top 5 environmental consulting companies in the world.
-5)Wrote for my school's newspaper my sophomore year. Was promoted to sports section editor for this year.
-6)Member of Jewish club since sophomore year
-7)Member of UCLA afterschool leadership program since sophomore year.
-8)Associated Student Body junior class representative. Will be the ASB executive president for my senior year (so I will represent the 3300 students in my school)
-9)Actively volunteer for school events (i.e. open house, freshman orientation, etc.)
-10)Volunteered approx 200 hours at an elementary school.
-11)Volunteered for Obama's phone banking organization
-12)Member of Jewish club since sophomore year.
-13)Member of my Magnet's leadership council since junior year
-14)Spanish Honors society since junior year
-15)Selected by my school to attend a leadership intensive camp during the summer before my junior year. Will be attending this year as well.
-16)Participating on a summer board which will help to inform citizens of Los Angeles about the new Genetically Processed Foods proposition on the ballet this year.
-17)Involved in various clubs, such as Vegetarian club, Environmental club, and Debate club.
-18)Member of my school's Penn Model Congress, which is a selective club that drafts bills/legislature, and then goes to UPenn to debate drafted bills.
-19)One of the three students chosen to represent the student body on the committee that delegates what my school's funding goes towards. (big deal)
-20)Also, I don't know if this counts, but I plan on running and completing the Los Angeles marathon this year (will be after I've applied to colleges, though)

So my grades are pretty iffy (1 failed class), my extracurriculars are great, and my SAT is pretty good. My letters of rec will be from my AP biology teacher (also on the foods board), my AP English Lang teacher, my Leadership teacher, my internship company (the top 5 in the world one), and the Jewish Sunday school that I work at. My essays will be well written.

I'm planning on applying Single Choice Early Action to Tulane, as it is by far my top choice.

These is my entire college list. What are my chances on some of the reaches?

1)Bates
2)Bowdoin
3)Bucknell
4)Colby
5)Colgate
6)Denison
7)Hamilton
8)Lewis and Clark
9)McGill
10)Middlebury
11)Tufts
12)Tulane

Once again, I know this is a lot of information, and I appreciate your input!

You need to narrow your activities down to those that you have shown passion for and have put significant amount of time into. My daughter was accepted to Kenyon (which is very similar to your type of schools) and her activities were

 1. Dance/Gymnastics
 2. Cheerleading

But she had spent so much time and was so invested in these activities that there was no time for anything else. Kenyon told us they want to see quality and not quantity. Your GPA is very borderline and I am not sure how sat corresponds to act but I would say an ACT score of 28 or above is needed for these schools. Write a good essay! That is so important!

And please please narrow that list of ec’s down and present just what you are really really passionate about. My daughter got into Kenyon with an ACT score of 28 so don’t let anyone on here tell you it isn’t possible. But get that GPA UP!

Good luck! (oh and by the way, she ended up choosing Ohio State - go figure) :)

Thanks for the input- I’ll definitely have to narrow down my extracurriculars to only the most important.

:)

Good chance at all of those. If you get a 2100 and ED you will most likely get into Tulane.

If you raise your SAT score, then you have a good chance. Your internship especially stands out–maybe write your essay about it. Make sure that all your EC’s have to do with environmental studies so you have a “spike”/“hook.” With a spike, your GPA hopefully won’t matter as much. Good luck!
Could you chance me for Princeton? Thanks! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1365139-chance-me-princeton.html#post14624947

I agree with everybody narrow your EC’s. You listed 20 things, which is too many. Also things can be combined/listed together. For example I have various board positions in my youth group, they will all be listed together instead of separately. Being a URM will help, though I feel that your GPA is a bit low, apply ED to your first choice, that will help…
