Obviously, I want to learn, but the ultimate purpose of college is for careers; will I be able to have a bright future career-wise with a journalism major? Or, would it be similar to a Scandinavian, Anthropology, of Theater and would not get me a good career?

It depends what you want to do. Journalism does not apply to as many careers as some other majors which could be an issue.

It is a very tough field to get a job in… tens of thousands of jobs have been lost, at least in print journalism, over the past 10 years. Newspapers are having trouble keeping circulation up, and print magazines are fading out of existence (we used to get at least half a dozen, now we get none at our house). The major news outlets have also cut tons of jobs (correspondents) in many locations, both in the US and abroad.

There are still jobs with major newspapers, online news sources, television, public radio, etc. Or you could be the next Jon Stewart. But generally the job prospects are not great.
