Be careful...

This is a postscript to Sheeprun’s caution about posting essays. I know that we all need to vent sometimes, but I’d be a little careful what you say here: Adcoms do sometimes read this board and it’s often easier than you think to identify students.

For example, in this ED round, I’ve seen deferred students ranting about the unfairness and corruption of the adcoms at a particular school. If you imagine an adcom for that school logging on and figuring out which posters were particularly incensed, it’s all too easy to imagine who’s not getting in.

Well I'd like to discourage personal attacks and unsubstantiated criticism to begin with regardless of the situation; however, I think it is equally bad to try and "guess" who each student is and hold comments against them that are on a public message board.

UC-Benz: I completely agree about personal attacks and unsubstantiated criticism; and congrats on Northwestern.

But for those who aren't yet admitted to the college of their choice: Even if it's "bad" for adcoms to lurk on these boards and figure out the real identities of posters who have applied to their school, it does happen, and an obnoxious post or two may be all it takes to tip a decision the wrong way.
