Thank you! be honest :)

Your ECs are weak, but low income and first gen/recs will help.
If your essay manages to be astounding, it might make up for your terrible SAT/course rigor.

my course rigor isn’t terrible, we only have 5 blocks in our schedule, so taking 3 ap’s is almost the most that one can manage in a year.

i do ec’s that really matter to me, and put a lot of heart into them. i’m not gonna do 10000 clubs just for the heck of it. ya know?

I’m not talking about quantity of ECs, they are just not that unique. No offense.

Also, where are your awards?

Low income/first gen will help immensely though.

Try and get your SAT to be 2300+.

Perhaps get district president in Key club?
Also work on a mindblowing and unheard of essay.

Edit: Show immense passion about whatever you’re passionate about.
Perhaps take some initiative in whatever that is.

I have Chemistry Award, Arts Award, Earth Science Award, and Bryant University Award, all from my school.

I’m not taking the SAT again, I’ve taken it twice, don’t have the money.

can someone actually give me the chances, please :)

You mean this?

Reach: Brown, Wesleyan, Carnegie Mellon
Match: Skidmore, St. Lawrence, U of Rochester, Conn. College, Brandeis, UVM, Syracuse

thank you! anyone else?

another opinion would be helpful :)

Sorry but your SAT score really limits you. Are you sure you don’t want to try again? I know money is an issue…but you’re investing in your future.
I like your ECs, I think you can tell that you care. You seem like you’d write an amazing essay (always reading/writing helps a lot)…I agree with brown as a high reach wesleyan reach the rest matches :)

i know the SAT score is low for ivy league, and other very selective schools, but it is above average for a couple schools that I’m applying to, so I didn’t see it as too much of a handicap

I’ll be honest: You don’t have a shot for Brown.

You’ve probably heard this before. But for Ivy league schools, your academics “open the door.” Your EC’s or whatever’s special about you “get you in.” The door is still closed with that SAT score (and what happened for AP French?)

It is a handicap in the sense that those are still reasonably challenging schools to get into.

Our AP french class, though I love the teacher, is horribly taught. We really don’t have the skills needed to do well on the exam. many kids in the class do poorly on it.

Also, yes the schools are challenging, but my scores are still above average for some, also, some of them do not even require SAT scores (St. Lawrence, for example)

bumpppp…

I’d say you already grouped your schools into reasonable categories. The SAT isn’t poor, but it isn’t great, so make sure your essay shines as a sort of compensation. I disagree with the other posters in terms of the ‘weakness’ of your EC’s. They definitely exemplify your dedication to the outdoors, and I think they’ll help, not hinder you. Other than that, you’re the perfect example of an overall good applicant. Nothing stellar, but nothing bad either. Either way, you’re fine for college don’t sweat it! Good luck.

take a look at Hamilton and Oberlin

Oberlin might be too far away… :(

why do you suggest these two?
