So I am currently a senior in high school who is planning to take a year of community college before transferring over to a larger university. Here are a few things about me just in case they have any weight on this:
*I am in the IB Diploma program
*Currently not sure of my rank, but GPA is at least 4.0 weighted right now, probably unweighted too (just assume that it is)
*Have an SAT of 1850 (MATH + CR 1230) and ACT of 27
*NHS member
*Key Club member
*Qualified for State in band three years in a row (Solo & Ensemble)
*etc.
I would like to major in some sort of International Studies program and I’m looking at both UT Austin and Texas A&M especially. If there’s any way for me to increase my chances at being accepted as a transfer student to either school after a year of community college, please discuss.
I didn’t see any community service, extracurricular activities, nor a job that involved on what you’re interested in. You’re putting pressure on being a member of something, or academically excelling on a subject rather than just to enjoy a single activity.
If you want to major in some sort of International Studies Program, then try to research possible programs, courses, key services that would sure put something under your belt that would make other colleges see that you’re interested yet focused on majoring in something relating to those subjects.
What kind of International Studies are you looking at? I think colleges like to see someone whose very narrow with their path that they’re taking. In other words, its too broad.
I have done a lot of hours of community service at many places like at the local library and at nursing homes and band has been my main extracurricular activity for four years, JROTC for two years. I have been a marching leader in band for two years and in JROTC as an element leader for one year.
I suppose trying to find possible activities outside of standard academia that relate to my major would be great, I could start trying to find out how to be involved in those sorts of things.
I’m thinking about either the diplomacy route or the cultural route, haven’t decided yet. I plan to either be working in something such as the Peace Corps or another related organization.
