Be honest...what r my chances?

bump please =)

No, I just remember from a back issue of JBHE that Johns Hopkins have the highest ED rate by far for black students, perticularly males. In the article, they cited they have very bad yield rates for the competitive blacks males that they do accept losing most of them to Ivies, so in turn over they accept they're majority during the Early Decision round at a supreme rate of 74%, by far the highest, i believe next highest was 58% at either Vandy or Georgetown, I forgot, but John Hopkins 74%, that's hard to forget.

In general, it was at the schools applicants consider one-notch below Ivy.

You have plenty of good thing that admissions officers will take note of such as the upward trend with your GPA and your relatively strong ECs. Your ethnicity also doesn't hurt.

A few concerns...The National Honor Roll and National Society of High School Scholars don't really mean anything to colleges. I guess I'm trying to say that your awards are decent, though not spectacular. Also, being selected to interview for Boy’s State is different than actually going. Were you chosen to go?

I think you could be competitive for most of the colleges on your list if you raise your SAT scores, meaning you should consider retaking it. Getting above a 2100 will do wonders for your chance at being admitted to these top schools. Like everyone said, I think you are basically a lock at Rutgers and Lafayette. The others may be a bit more difficult. Do you have any more schools that may be more of a 'good match'?

Since I was accepted to (and going to attend) Swarthmore this year, I will say that you NEED to show a strong interest in going to Swarthmore to get in. The 'Why Swat?' is considered one of the most important parts of the entire application. Also, the school does tend to look strongly at numbers such as SAT scores and rank (though I see that your school does not rank). For instance, more than 50% of the students that Swarthmore admitted this year were in the top 2% of their respective class.

Whatever happens...good luck and don't let anyone deter you from applying to the colleges that you chose!

Swimjim, I just want to let you know that a lot of people on CC are kind of bastards, so don't let their comments get you down. They're not being critical anymore they're just being arses.

One thing though. What are your courses like? The big this is if you are taking the highest level courses. I had a 3.4 throughout my highschool career, which is nothing compared to these people on here, but I took full IB which held some weight when it came to applying to Swarthmore. I also got a 1950 on the SAT. And before anyone can say any **** about it being becaues I was black, I applied to Swat with 4 other black females and none of them got in. And you know that I got in and I'm attending, so the work load of the courses you're taking is important too.

National Society of High School Scholars exists, what are you talking about?
