Be my college counselor!

OK.... so i just started thinking about college after i took the SAT a couple weeks ago. Im pretty much going this process alone because my parents dont talk about it much and i never use my school counselor. So, since i have no idea what college to go to, if you guys could glance at my 'stats' and just name drop some schools that i could start with, i would really appreciate it. BTW, im a junior from CA, and i doubt i would want to go to a college on the east coast. Im from a private highschool.

GPA: 3.1 ( I pretty much bombed my freshman year, due to social probs and not really caring about anything. :(
Sat: CR: 700 Math: 630 Writ:660 total: 1990

Thanks! Any input appreciated!

UCB/UCLA: Super Reach
UCSD: Reach
UCI/UCSB/UCD: Slight Reach
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Match

Getting that GPA up is the most important thing. Your SATs are decent when compared to your GPA, but you should study a lot and take them again senior year. You probably have potential to raise them quite a bit, so take practice tests/go over a ton of problems for math and writing and try and raise your score 100+ points.

What kind of college do you want to go to? If you want a small private (and thus expensive) college on the west coast, check out Occidental (in LA), Pitzer (LA area), Lewis and Clark (Portland area), Whitman (southeast WA) etc. These will be huge reaches with a 3.1, so try and raise it up as high as possible this semester!

To browse at colleges, use princetonreview.com, its helpful (although the find your school thing is terrible).

Thanks!
Unfortunately, money is an issue. I prob cant go to those private expensive schools. I kind of like UC Santa Cruz in terms of location, but it has the stoner/hippie rep, and im not too into that.

I want to be a Psych major and minor in english. I noticed online that Oregon is a top psych school, which is really encouraging because that sounds like a plausible choice as well.

What is you UC GPA (A-G Classes During 10th and 11th Grade)? You said your freshmen year grades sucked so what is your gpa not counting them? If it is still low check out some of the CSU's...Maybe San Diego State of Long Beach.

freshman year i got a 2.5, sophomore a 3.3, and 3.4 first semester junior year. Im in second semester right now in junior year, and im prob looking at a 3.1 :(

Well since your gpa is pretty low, I would apply to some CSU's just be safe. SDSU is the best CSU for college life. Cal Poly SLO is the best
academically (Hard To Get In To Though). Long Beach seems pretty nice...and maybe check out Chico...Good Luck!

Does that really mean anything? I mean, is there a group at your school called "Students FOR sweatshops?"

"Students FOR sweatshops", that gives me an idea...

Students against sweatshop coalition is a club where we make petitions to boycot sports apparel that is made by the use of sweatshops. I go to a jesuit school, so we try to get all the other jesuit colleges/highschools to follow suit, and spreading awareness at the same time.

Nice joke attempt though!
