Bear Tennis

How good is the team? I’ve looked at the record and the bios (that are listed) for all of their current players. But is it hard to try to become recruited for the team? etc.

Thanks a lot, everyone!

it's a good team, we keep getting shafted in the rankings, hovering in like the 60s, but we beat teams ranked in the 40s and such. It would be easy to say we are one of the top 50 programs in the nation.

Recruits are generally top 250ish in the nation at Brown. So it's somewhat difficult to be one, but nothing like the top 20 teams where most of the players are international. Coach Harris really has stepped the program up since he signed on a few years ago.

I've seen both Bears and U of T Longhorns tennis practice before. Between the two teams we are talking about a team that is a contender for NCAA title and a team that only consistantly makes the playoffs. So, Brown Bears are in different caliber than the Longhorns. However, both teams have talented players and they are both great teams. I think Brown tennis program was also ranked in the top 10 "most consistant" programs in the "Smash Tennis" magazine along with teams such as Rice, UCLA and stanford. Obviously, the tennis program in Brown has a great reputation.

I really enjoyed the program and team, though the facilities could use a little work... their indoor courts aren't exactly the most beautiful thing in the world. Nevertheles, Coach Harris is a great coach and the always seem to win the Ivies, so its definitely a great choice if you are looking for top-Ivy tennis. They seem to creat top ranked Noreasters in the region or players ranked somewhere in the top 150 in the nation, though if you are a good student they may take an addidional look. National experience would really help, though. Like a USTA National Open or something.
