Bear with me

General feel, you think I could get in or no?

I AM A LEGACY (Dad/Aunt)

SAT: 2080 (M:670 CR:730 W:680)
GPA: 3.7 (over half my B’s are from freshman year)
I’ve taken 3 Aps (World 3,Lit 4, APUSH4) and 1 IB (Econ SL:6) so far.
I’m full IB so I have 5 more exams at the end of my senior year, and my elective this year is AP Calc so my senior workload is pretty damn heavy if i do say so myself.
Extra Curriculars/Volunteering: Good but lacking leadership roles, completed CAS for IB (over 150 hours of Creativity/Action/Service)

I think that’s it??? Ill add more if need be, but yeah just gimme your best guesstimation! thanks!

Oops… I want to Major in Economics
Taking ACT with Writing in October, basing my taking of SAT subject tests off that score.

Last double legacy I saw with similar stats (and better SATs) to you did not get in. (and legacy connection was “tighter”.) but that student was more interested in other schools so that might have “flavored” the application. Definitely see if you can get better board scores, and do make sure you have lots of good options of schools. Brown, like many others, is very “unpredictable”.

An aunt is not considered a legacy connection.

The accept rate for legacies is not as high as it once was. You are still facing competition from thousands who have the same or better GPA & scores as you. Go for more leadership roles if you can.

My D had 2 parents & a sister as alums and was not accepted — and I am delighted she was not, as Brown was not the right place for her! Don’t expect legacy status to help that much.

JRZMom: Do you mind if I ask why Brown wasn’t the right place for your daughter? I’m just curious. I don’t mean to pry.

Chelsea, there are lots of reasons why Brown is not for everyone. There are some majors that Brown doesn’t offer. Some students really want and need a core curriculum, and need more structure in their academics. Some kids don’t want to be in a city – I know a legacy who turned down Brown because she wanted to go skiing every weekend in the winter (yes, that was a top priority for this kid). Some students want a school with winning sports teams that attract sell-out crowds to every game.

solid/decent chance

I say you have a chance! Good luck!

JRZMom: I understand. Thanks!
