Beard

Ccers, what can I do to convince my parents to let me grow a goatee. I am only 17 but can grow a pretty thick beard. I've tried everything. My parents just refuse to let me grow one. They are afraid people will think I am some freak or something. Also, do any of you CCers have a type of beard, goatee, etc? Did your parents let you grow it or did you just grow it anyway? Please, I want to go into Senior year with a spiffy looking beard.

my parents wouldn't care if i grew a beard.

lol it's your body hair, do what you wanna do with it
seriously in 1 year you can move out on your own
molly i thought you were a girl. =</p>

it was a joke.

I had a goatee for a very short amount of time. My parents really did not care much, actually my Mom really liked it. I kept it for about 2-3 weeks, and really hated having it, so I shaved it off pretty quickly.

I can't even grow a beard. U couldn't do it for my life, and all I want is a mustache!!!! I've wanted one for the last 3 years.

U couldn't do it for my life= I couldn't do it for my life.

I have a little goatee going, I like it. Beards aren't that cool, usually whenever I see a teen with facial hair its just a goatee.

Why would your parents care? Second, even if they did care, how can they stop you? Just throw your razor out.

I'm pretty sure most parents have methods of stopping their kids without resorting to holding them down and shaving them.

Mine do :(

I know a guy who got suspended from school at 13 for having a goatee :p
Seriously... it should be your choice. What are your parents gonna do... forcibly shave you?

You can get suspended for having a goatee??!!

He was in a very strict Catholic school. We were all like 'yeah Shane... W.T.F???' but they wouldn't let him back in until he shaved.

At my catholic school you get detention and are forced to shave for your facial hair.

Oh, I would hate to go to you school... I hate shaving, so I only do it when the hair gets long and I start looking like a bum, haha.

Anyway, why would your parents think you look like a freak. A lot of people have goatees, and the only ones that look freakish are those that would like freaks without the goatee, so unless you already like a freak (not saying you do, but I wouldn't really know for sure), chances of you looking like a freak with a goatee is kinda slim.

You can try and tell parents a few things:
1)If people think I look weird, oh well. We will all live.
2)Shut up (or something else to that effect...), its my face, I'll do what i want with it.
3)Your claims have no evidentiary support, so unless you can show me people that looke bizarre, weird, freakish or whatever with the kind of beard that I want solely based on my beard, you're wrong and I will proceed in growing my facial hair in the manner of my choosing.

Then again you can just grow and say nothing. What are they gonna do, bind you to a table and shave your face for you?

in our school, we are not allowed goatees, beards, long hair (on guys). For school photos, they have shavers ready by their sides.

But it's pretty funny when girls have them.. when there's a bit of hair on the upper-lip on guys, the teachers go beserk and report you.. but when girls have a bit of upper lip action and a monobrow going on, the teachers keep their mouths shut

there's this girl in my bio class who has heavy upperlip hair and i cant stop staring at it. When i talk to her, I can feel my eyeball trailing down to her upper-lip.. I try not to! but it's so hard..

I don't really like to shave that much, so when I'm off from school I just don't shave for a while. My mom told me to shave though before I went to volunteer so I'm kinda in your situation too. Just tell them that it's your decision and not their's.

Suggest you grow it now, see what it looks like and say, that if its not right for school, you will agree to shave it...maybe by that time, they will get used to it

hmm .. I'd suggest a different approach. Have a talk with your parents about when they think you should be able to make decisions about your appearance ... cloths, hair, beard, tatoos, ear rings, nose rings. I'm guessing they have not really thought about when they would let you decide for your self. And by having this overall discussion you could negotiate something like this .... I agree that I will not get a nose ring, ear rings, or tatoo without your permission and you'll let me decide about cloths, hair, and beard ... scare them with the extreme and hopeufully they'll give you some rope on the minor stuff (beard). Or you could negotiate a trial period and who will give opinions (you, your gf, you mom and dad, a trusted aunt or uncle). Good luck (PS - I first grew a beard as a junior in college and my current beard is 22 1/2 years old!)

one other beard story ... each summer I threaten to shave off my beard ... but my wife does not want me to shave it off (she has never seen me without a beard). I tell her that I'll grow it back if she doesn't like the way it looks ... her response ... even if you grow it back I'll always know if you're ugly without a beard. So in my house (for my wife and kids) no beard would be the scary unknown wierd look!
