Hello
My friends and I have decided to room at Beaty. Since the rooms at Beaty are for four people, I have 3 friends to fill the slots. We're not worried about getting the dorm, because I have an early room selection date.
However, our preferences have to match to get each other.
If the housing preferences page only allow for 2 other people, how do we match for the third person?
We were planning to do a chain-link kind of thing. Like:
Person A puts person B and person D
Person B: Person C and person A
Person C: Person D and person B
Person D: Person A and person C

However, one of my potential roommates heard from her friend at UF (who lives in another dorm, not Beaty) that we can't do the chain thing, because each person isn't matching the other person's preferences exactly. When I sign up for a room on my selection date, can't I just put in their UFIDs to reserve the spot for them, and they just accept it in their email within 24 hours?

Can any other students help me out in this?? I'm really confused, and I want to room with my friends.
Thank you! :)

Err…not a student, but I don’t think this will work for Beaty. Your preferences are only used if you let housing handle room selection. Housing doesn’t do that till after students select rooms, for Fall term that’s on May 17th thru May 18th. At that point, it’s unlikely that much will be available in Beaty, and you’ll likely be placed in your 2nd or 3rd option.

You’re much more likely to get a spot in Beaty if you make your selection on May 17th or May 18th. In this case, with rooms being limited, you may not find a unit of 4 that’s available. You may have to go 2 and 2. When you make your selections, you may all want to be at the same location or all be on-line at the same time so you can coordinate which dorms you select (Beaty or your 2nd option).

My selection date is on May 18th at 8:30AM.
I was just wondering if preferences really matter if I’m going to be reserving a room for my friends anyways.
