Beautiful Campus!!!

I recently visited the College of Charleston campus this past Tuesday and it was amazing! There is so much to do, so much life, and everyone was friendly. They have wonderful extracurricular activities to participate in. And surprisingly the school has a 14:1 student ratio. After the tour I definately knew that I wanted to attend C of C to obtain my Bachelor's Degree. They also have many opportunites for minority students. The dorms were definately top of the line. I would advise everyone to check it out. You will honestly fall in love with this campus.

My mother and I were there on Tuesday as well. 10 am tour. I decided during the tour that this was the place for me!

are you guys instate or OOS?

I'm from NY and would love to experience the southern life. what did you guys think -- details! lol

thanks

I'm instate!

I loved the college and its entire atmosphere. That was my first time at the College of Charleston and I just knew I had to attend this school! The students at the college were VERY friendly and helpful (because my parents and I couldn't find the building we were suppose to go to). We also found out that the College of Charleston will become more competitive for incoming freshman because of all the programs and etc. that they have to offer. I live in South Carolina and the College of Charleston is definately one of the best in the state, and one of the most competitive academically. They have a broad range in extracurricular activities. FREE TUTORING..........for any subjects. I honestly cannot say anything negative about this school. The only thing that was upsetting to me was that they don't have enough room for everyone in their residence halls. But even in that case, they help you find apartments.

You should go to a campus tour! I'm pretty positive that it will seal the deal! You will have your mind made up before the end of the tour. I know I did. Hope to see you in the FALL!!!

I'm oos. NJ

Thought I was going to Penn State. Sent in money and everything. When I visited Penn again I decided the area depressed me. Really not my thing. The cold mountains of Pennsylvania. That was April 1. April 11 I was on a plane to Myrtle beach to visit UNC Wilmington and CofC. Wilmington was a beautiful campus but couldn't stand the fact that it was surrounded by Highways. Also seemed like a suitcase college. 88% in state. Drove to CofC. Charleston is magical!! It's definitely a city but one of the nicest I've seen. King Street has all the best shopping and restaurants/bars. Seems like everyone is transplanted from the north east. They take 35% oos. Not many thick southern drawls. Felt like home. Beaches are really close. Took a drive to see Folly beach, just 15 mins away. It's really the best of both worlds and the weather can't be beat. You must visit!! Where are you from? Have you applied anywhere yet?

I'm a junior from NY so I haven't applied anywhere else. It sounds amazing...exceptttttttt...

it seems like it would lack a traditional college atmosphere and unity because hardly anyone lives on campus.

If you send in your deposit on time, you are guarenteed a room on campus.

if you guys want to know anything about the school's programs... party life... sorority fraternities... night life... etc... just ask i can pretty muchly fill you in!

^ can you tell me how campus life is? Since there isn't housing for everyone, how do you meet friends since you have to live on your own in charleston pretty much after freshman year? Is there a sense of community or is it just the school in charleston people go to and come home?

most students choose to life off campus. In the Charleston area in walking distance there are a lot of for rent apartments some are in range of normal rent like 400-600 and some go wayyyy expensive.. There's also James Island that's about 10 minutes away i've lived in my sorority house for the past 2 years and next year i'll be living in an apartment on james island. There's also a lot of other apartments in areas around charleston. I think that most kids who apply for housing do get it, because i was a freshman that didn't do early decision and i still got into housing. Campus life is awesome, first Charlesotn is known for being one of the best mannered/ friendliest cities! if you can't make friends in charleston you don't deserve friends! there's always your roommates, there's flyers around campus wherever you look for roommates wanted, sororities and fraternities ( i'm in a sorority) the Greek system is good i love it!!! if it's for you i sugges tyou go for it, but i know it's not for everyone! I will say that my sorority opened up a lot of things for me there are girls that i met and have become best friends with who are getting married this summer, others are graduating with me, and my big sister in the sorority lives in New York and we still talk, it opened up a family that otherwise i wouldn't have had, Also it's a home away from home all the soroities except 1 have a house and i think 5 or 6 out of 8 fraternities have houses, they have mixers where you mix with other greeks, and date parties that sometimes like we do a get your sister a mister, in a soror/frat you get involved with community service and since it is the city and it's located right next to the hospital there's lots to do !

I don't think C of C is a college people just go to and then go home. In the best way i know how charleston is tottally different from any area that you've lived. it's amazing how friendly people are, and how much even though you hate parking you miss it when you leave, my parents live 25 minutes from charleston and in the summer i start missing it even though parking does make me cringe! there's lots of eating places, there's the college also does lots of events like there's up all night where cougar productions does bingo for like tv's play stations, etc. There's paintball tents, the climb the mountain things, breakfast at liek 12 am at the cafeteria, also cougar productions ( its a great group to be involved in) they do free movies for students, there are also like this wil sound stupid but there was a speed friending night at the college.. there are lots of honor organizations... student council is huge! on our campus people running for office go all out! student council/ cougar productions/ and a sorority or fraternity is your best way to meet other students... that and at night lets face it c of c has great academic programs but the student life is awesome es. at night there's ton of parties, tons of bars and restaurants to go to .. if there's anything that you want to know that i didnt' answer just post and ill reply

thank you soo much! that answered a ton of questions for me. I definitely want friendliness, an active campus life, and an amazing town as well as a sorority! :-)

how about the people that actually attend the college -- isn't it like 67% women? how are the guys? do you meet people in classes or are they too big to be sort of social?

thanks again...i owe you one! :-P

yeah the girl to guy ratio is 3:1, the guys are super friendly , but don't worry about the ratio because the citadle 90 percent male school fyi is like a few miles away plus the airforce, and navy schools aren't far from the area, classes usually aren't that big unless they are science classes, and occasionally other classes go up to 50 plus, but usually the regular size is like 20 or less, the classes get smaller when you take classes in you rmajor. and yes es in your foreign language classes you have to take the teachers make you do activities, plus it's always good to start up convo with someone! and yay for you wanting to join a sorority that's awesome!!! are you on face book ? if not it;s www.thefacebook.com and you can sign up with your school email and then like it's just something big at the college you can find you friends from other schools and all kinds of stuff! rush is going on at fall break this year though! that's the only sucky part!!! but you should do it sororities are so much fun!

i can tell the people are friendly because you've been so nice answering my questions! i don't have a school e-mail, so I can't use facebook...only a hs junior...so I'm gonna try searching myspace for c of c people. maybe i can find a few others to chat with to get a really good insight.

i love everything so far except for the living off campus thing...ive always lived far away from my friends and itd be cool to do the college thing where everyone lives together, etc. other than that, small class sizes...amazing town...everything sounds great!
