Harvard and MIT have the ideal location though: In a ‘smaller’ town with hundreds of students, next to one of the biggest cities in the US. And plus, Harvard’s campus is really pretty as well (imho), MIT not so much (matter of taste). And Harvard also has its own forest!

Baelor, a campus wit many roads wouldn’t be that of a problem. Stanford is in fact my favorite college, albeit a high reach one for me.

That picture of Madison is awesome. Shame that it gets really cold during the winter.

Have we all forgotten to mention Cornell? Sometimes said to be the most beautiful campus in America.

But isn’t Cornell a bit too isolated? I love Cornell’s campus from the pictures I’ve seen but I read that Ithaca is an isolated town.

MIT’s campus is hideous. Not the selling point of that school.

okay durham is not GREAT, but it’s not as horrible as everyone makes it out to be. seriously. check it out yourself. and besides, RTP is an amazing asset.

Of course there are nice parts of Durham (like Duke), but the city as a whole has one of the worst property crime rates in NC and doubles up the state average on violent crimes per person. It isn’t the greatest place to live, and most locals know that.

^maybe, but your diction exaggerates it a little lol. duke’s environment (ie safety wise, as long as you’re smart and don’t do stupid things at 3AM and such) is like columbia. obviously factor out the whole NYC part, but yeah. i looked at this a lot, as i had to choose between those.

Perhaps cuse0507 is a UNC student?
Maybe that would explain the gratuitous negative comments about Duke.

This comment is representative of the futility of threads such as this one. I personally think the MIT campus is nice (yes, I have been there). It all depends on what you like.
Then I am a tad confused as to why you mentioned it in a thread asking for “Beautiful campuses in great locations” ;)

double posted - ignore

MIT’s campus was one of the most expensive in the nation. They have some fantastic modernist and cubist architecture there. People who say it’s ugly should go and shoot themselves so that it’s one less nagging backward dipsht to have to deal with in the world.

MIT’s campus was gross. I did not like it. It is not beautiful.

And all I would say osucowboys, is that MIT is an example of money not buying everything, in this case beauty.

I am a UNC student, but my negative comments were about Durham, not Duke. Anyone from the state of North Carolina knows that Durham is one of the roughest cities in the state and therefore should be excluded when talking about “great” locations for colleges.

I think MIT looked ok. A lot of concrete yes, the the “modernist” buildings were pretty cool. And domes and columns are always cool =D

People have barely even mentioned Boston College! It has such a beautiful campus. Even the color of its stone buildings and walls are easy on the eye.

beautiful campus + close to lake = Northwestern University.

^ Make that ON the lake w/ 2 beaches.

As for Stanford, some people like the uniform mission style architecture, others don’t care for it.

For me, Stanford’s campus is a little overrated (it’s still nice) - it just has too many empty areas, making it look disjointed. Palo Alto is nice (looks very similar to Chicago’s Northshore).

Duke’s campus is nice, but yeah, Durham is pretty much a dump.

A lesson in syllogism:

“MIT is hideous” = “Pablo Picasso sucks” = “I am amazingly ignorant”
