Ive heard stories from various people of making their applications beautiful... spraying a good scent on the papers, putting glitter, using unique stamps for postage, and even using pink paper instead of the standard one (like in Legally Blonde).

Do people actually do that? And are they even effective in the selection process?

how about "decorating" the essay? lol I hear few of my friends are doing themed essay decorations, nothing too fancy just a stylish frame and 1-2 insert pics

The only thing I was thinking of doing that may be considered somewhat eye pleasing is sending a supplemental package in a colored envelope. That's only if I could find one. And by colored I mean dark colors - dark green, navy, maroon. I just think it'd look nicer but by no means overdone. Again, that's only if they're the same price and located in the same area as the other envelopes - I don't plan to waste my time on frills.

Infact most adcomm get really irritated .. with all these .. . . . .

Reading 10000 applications and getting one out of the world app with scent and stuff drives them crazy and mentally disbalances...
That cud be like in a way making tehm prodisposed to think ===

Well... seems like this aint that gr8 of an application...thats why it seems to be so fancy .. better be cautious..

The application is supposed to look professional, not something that a kindergartener would have thought of. Kindergarten kids use scents, colored paper, etc. to showcase their work. Adults use well thought out words and impressive content. One doesn't get a gold star for having an application with sparkles or colored paper.

An adcom from Wesleyan who gave a session at my D's school commented that if she had one more application with little sparkly things falling out of the envelope, she would scream. So would I.

To be honest, I would be surprised if the Adcom actually saw the envelope and/or stamp. My guess is there is some poor secretary with a letter opener and a stapler, and a dust buster to clean up all the little sparkly things.
